The International Criminal Court (ICC) recently confirmed a cyberattack – and noticed a “new, sophisticated and targeted” attack was discovered through the court’s alarm and response mechanism.
Since the discovery of the attack, the organization claims to have contained it and is now working to mitigate any effects.
No other details were revealed, so we don’t know who the threat actors are, what the nature of the attack was and if it left any consequences.
Links to Gaza
The ICC, established in 2002, and operated independently of the United Nations, is a court based in The Hague, the Netherlands, which prosecutes individuals for the most serious crimes about the international community.
It includes war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and more, with some media linking this attack to the atrocities happening in Gaza at the moment.
In his report, Cygenerws States, ICC have been under “Increased Control” to have issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
A similar mood was reported by Times of Israelwhich also emphasized that there is also an arrest warrant for former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallat.
Israel rejects the court’s jurisdiction and claims that the fighting in Gaza complies with international law. US President Donald Trump recently sanctioned chief attorney Karim Khan and three other judges because of warrants, Politico Reports.
This is not ICC’s first cyber attack, and Khan warned that the organization also has to tighten up security as future attacks are also likely.
