Internet services suspended in Twin Cities in the middle of TLP’s march against Islamabad

Islamabad: Authorities suspended cellular Internet in Islamabad and Rawalpindi as Tehreek-E-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) continued his march towards the federal capital on Friday.

“The Ministry of Interior and Drug Control has given approval to suspend 3G/4G services in the twin towns of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, starting from 12 o’clock to further orders,” read the Ministry of the Interior on Thursday.

The Ministry requested Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take “additional necessary actions” in coordination with the Islamabad Commissioner, IGP office, Rawalpindis Commissioner and the RPO office.

The message comes as the federal government intensified the efforts to prevent TLP from marjoring towards the capital.

By tackling a news conference, the prime minister declared the inner Talal Chaudhry that the government endeavored to prevent TLP’s planned march against Islamabad through peaceful means and claimed that the state “would not be detained by bullies”.

Chaudhry questioned the rationale behind the march and noted that Palestinians are celebrating the recent agreement on peace in Gaza.

“The biggest party in the question is the Palestinians, and they are celebrating the recent peace agreement,” he said.

“What is the purpose of this protest despite a decision on the question of Palestine and Gaza?” the minister asked.

Chaudhry maintained that the federal government had implemented preventative measures and would not tolerate “extortion and policy for demands”.

The Minister accused TLP of exploiting sensitive issues for political gains and declared that the party was involved in attacks on public property in the past.

“The government will not let these bully and protests move on,” he added.

Meanwhile, authorities have placed containers in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in the light of TLP’s planned march towards the federal capital.

In his press, Chaudhry said containers were placed in Islamabad to “protect people from miscreans”.

In Punjab, the authorities have imposed Section 144 of the CRPC throughout the province and excluded the display of weapons and a ban on public gatherings.

According to a message issued by the Punjab Home Department, a ban on gatherings, processions and sit-ins in accordance with section 144 has been introduced to maintain law and order in the province.
