- Invincible Season 3 Section 5 is now out on Prime Video
- It includes an incredibly sweet scene between rex splod and shrinking rae
- Now I fear the worst for the fate of one or both characters after the heartwarming moment
The fifth episode of Invincible Season 3 is now out on Prime Video – and in the midst of everything that happens in this chapter, there is a specific moment that has caused me to fear the worst for Rex Splod and shrink Rae.
The hit adult animated series’ latest post, entitled ‘This should be easy’, is surprisingly filled with moments that are torn right out of the sides of InvincibleSource material. However, it is a completely original scene focusing on Rex and Rae that not only warms my heart but also worry me about what could happen to the couple in Amazon’s adaptation.

Invincible Season 3 has not held back in its proposal that something of a romantic nature is developing between Rex and RAE. Actually the duo has spent much of this season tying over their common trauma of to Lizard League -attack that almost cost them their lives in Invincible Season 2 Part 1. They have also grown closer after events that happened in season 3’s second post that I tentatively covered in my Invincible Season 3 Review. In fact, Rex and Rae-among some other members of the Guardians of the Globe page with the titular hero after the almost complete collapse of the latter collaboration with the global defense agency manager Cecil Stedman.
In the two episodes that follow, Rex, Rae and Company establish their own operating base in the secret place that originally housed the Teen Team. In some ways, the couple become de-factor leaders and parents ‘characters in Guardians’ Breakaway group and like any good parent they decide to go to food purchases. Hi, they are no longer the bank roller of GDA, so they have to shop and pay for their own groceries.
But I get off-track. Their grocery journey is truncated by the appearance of a supervillain that they have to tackle. Before they do, however, Rae spends much of the excursion complains that she is longing to make homemade meals, be an ordinary person, etc., etc. It is a conversation that beats a chord with Rex, which, as my fellow fans will know, has undergone the biggest and best character transformation in one of the best prime video shows.
It brings us to section 5, which sees Rex Post a colorful drawing under Rae’s door, which basically asks her to join him for dinner. Confused, she leads to Teen Team Hideout’s Kitchen, where she finds Rex rattling a homemade meal for both of them. The resulting dinner is running out to be the first date and after the truly awful events they have had to fight with since their introductions in Invincible Season 1, it’s time for these fan-favorite characters to enjoy some happiness.
Why i’m worried about Rex and Rae’s fates in invincible season 3
Full spoilers immediately follow before Invincible‘s Cartoon series.
Invincible Devoted knows as well as I do that moments of joy of every character are almost always followed by emotionally devastating.
This is precisely this reason why I am so concerned about Rex and Rae in Season 3’s last couple of episodes – and it’s all down to the upcoming cataclying event known as the invincible war. You can learn more about it in this piece where I discussed how Invincible Season 3’s new title sequence is to lay the foundation of one of the graphic novels’ bloodiest battles. It is a certainty that Rex and/or Rae will be involved in this closest world ending, multi-day struggle. After all, the earth needs every superhero to help defend it from the aforementioned attack.
The problem is that Rae and Rae, as superpower individuals, are poorly equipped to deal with a battalion of multiversal invincible variants. If they are forced to go toe to toe with one of these wild rumites in a one-on-one situation, they simply will not survive.
There is also precedence for this that happens in the comics. At this point in Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley’s literary works are actually dead. The character perished in the fight with the Lizard League, but given that she defied death in Amazon’s TV adaptation, I am afraid that her death has been delayed to give her a more heroic victim in the show’s takeover of the invincible war.
But it’s rex that I’m even more afraid of because he dies while fighting one of Mark Grayson/Invincibles multiStelsale variants in the graphic novels. In a ‘Hail Mary’ movie, he uses his own skeleton as he runs out of objects to get into his kinetic energy forces. He manages to kill his enemy in the resulting explosion, but surprisingly he also dies like, yes, he blasts himself to save his allies.
Prime Videos Adaptation has changed and/or improved certain history lines and characters from the comics. There is therefore every chance that loved characters like Rex and Rae can live to fight for another day. However, I cannot shake the feeling that one or both of them will not come to the last season 3 section 7, which is when I expect the invincible war to take place.
