Ionos, one of Europe’s largest web hosting providers, has given rise to a setback from customers after announcing a sudden price increase for its virtual private server (VPS) plans.
The company attributed the increase to higher licensing fees from its partner Webpros International, the developer behind the popular Plesk and Cpanel Management Tools.
However, customers say that the short notice and timing of the mid -contract has left them frustrated and encrypted for alternatives.
Customers Ask Mid -Contract Price Changes
The e -mail sent to VPS users stated that additional £ 5 per Month, excluding VAT, now would apply for each Plesk license tied to their servers.
While the amount may seem small, many customers operate more servers, making the increase significant.
The message gave them a little over a month to decide whether to pay the new fee or remove the plesing from their systems completely.
Some users questioned whether the introduction of a new cost mid -contract was fair, arguing that such changes should only apply to renewal.
Others complained that the 30-day warning period was insufficient to migrate services to another host, especially for companies that depend on complex setups of multiple server.
For users of web hosting of small businesses, the timing could not be worse, as many of these companies depend on Plesk as a control panel for managing E email, domains and sites without needing technical expertise.
Removing what Ionos hinted could create serious administrative challenges.
While there are alternatives to Plesk, switching control panels can cause downtime, configuration problems or even data loss if not handled carefully.
The controversy highlights a recurring question in web hosting, where changes in licensing or supplier conditions can quickly affect customers who depend on allegedly “free” bundled tools.
Customers pointed to Iono’s own terms, which allows for price adjustments with 30 days written notice.
However, some questioned whether charging separately for something that had previously been announced as free was legitimate.
The company’s lack of public reaction has only reinforced dissatisfaction. Several attempts from journalists reaching Ionos have gone unanswered for several days.
As more free web hosting and low -cost providers compete in the market, trust and transparency become as valuable as technical reliability.
Currently, Ionos users who weigh, if they have to pay more, are left to customize their systems or find a new host completely.
