- iOS 18.3 is now out for all users with a few other Apple software updates.
- For the first time, this update is enabled by default Apple Intelligence.
- This update rolls a solution for message listings and improvements to visual intelligence.
After a few weeks of developer and public betas, Apple finally released iOS 18.3 to the public in Day-Well means that if you have an iPhone capable of running the software, you can install it as an over-the-air- Update right now.
It also delivers two significant improvements to Apple Intelligence and teeth by default for features. In the world of Apple software updates, iOS 18.3 still stands as a minor that does more work under the hood instead of giving flashy new features.
Apple also released several updates to its other devices: iPados 18.3, MacOS Sequoia 15.3 and Watchos 11.3. Updates to Apple Vision Pro, HomePod and HomePod Mini and Apple TV 4K also fell, so now it’s a good time to check for updates.
However, the big change is with Apple’s latest software updates that Apple Intelligence is enabled by default. So if you do not want the chatgpt integration to Siri, Image Playground, Custom Emoji, Writing Tools or Notification Summarations, in this case, navigate to settings and turn off the packaging with features.
Leading feature package with iOS 18.3 is new tricks for visual intelligence. Originally teased in September 2024, when Apple first revealed the iPhone 16 lineup, camera control could do a little more in addition to taking photos, including letting you take a picture of something and either searching for it on Google or asking chat for help.
Now, with iOS 18.3, Visual Intelligence can help you identify a pet – it worked well with my Mini Bernedoodle, Rosie – and different types of plants. Further, if you scan a poster or something with a date on it, you can export this right to your calendar to create a new event.
It certainly makes visual intelligence more useful. Given that it is similar to Google Lens and other apps, including chatgpts iOS app, which has become more multimodal, Apple is determined to look to improve the experience continuously. It also builds Apple Intelligence features; Remember, these all are still in beta.
The second Apple Intelligence feature that gets an update here is messages of message lists, and this is the fix or solution promised by the tech giant after the feature caused a few very public problems. You may remember that BBC News called the feature to summarize a story about the accused killer of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson quite wrong.
With iOS 18.3, by default, there are reviews for ‘News and Entertainment’ apps by default, and you can turn the functionality on or from per. App. Turning off the news feature completely shows that Apple makes some more adjustments under the hood and is likely to gene this when it feels that the feature is ready for Prime Time.
All other apps with message lists turned on will be presented in italics to tell you that they are generated through Apple Intelligence.
And if you’ve already run iOS 18.1 or iOS 18.2, iOS 18.3 automatically activates Apple Intelligence on your device if you assume it can run it. You can still go into settings to turn it off, but this is the first time it will be enabled by default, and the same switch-on occurs with macOS Sequoia 15.3 and iPados 18.3.
As with most other Apple software updates, iOS 18.3 also includes bug fixes and security updates, so keeping your iPhone and other Apple devices are always advisable.
