- iOS 18.4 could be just around the corner as Apple has issued a version before release
- New features include priority messages and a new style to photo playground
- In addition, Visual Intelligence comes to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
iOS 18.4 seems to bring a greater revision to the way messages work on your iPhone, and the best part is that we might not have to wait too long for the upcoming update to arrive.
As Verge reports, Apple issued a publishing candidate version of iOS 18.4 on March 24, signaling that the stable release of the update is likely to be very soon. Remarkably, this iOS 18.4 Beta finally brings priority messages to select iPhones, an Apple Intelligence feature that automatically provides prominent nature to important messages by highlighting them on your lock screen.
Personally, I think it sounds like a good addition to iPhone’s review system – my phone is often jammed with all kinds of messages, so having the most important highlighted the other I reach my device seems like a useful addition. However, you need an iPhone 15 -Pro or later to access Apple Intelligence (and therefore prioritized messages).
Priority messages were first revealed in June 2024 along with the announcement and release of the iPhone 16 Series and iOS 18, but the feature seems to have fallen victim to the unusually messy launch of Apple Intelligence (see also the long-awaited Siri update).
A publishing candidate building is, as the name implies, a close to clear version of a software update letter speaking a candidate for stable release. We can think of the liberation candidate as the intermediate stage between beta versions and the right thing. It therefore traces that priority messages will be an important part of iOS 18.4 correctly.
What else comes with iOS 18.4?
As 9TO5MAC reports, iOS 18.4 will bring a handful of other software goodies to owners of iPhone XS or later, where the update includes all the current best iPhones.
Significantly, iOS 18.4 will bring Apple Intelligence to the EU and end a month long gridlock due to officially unknown causes.
Furthermore, Apple’s environmentally aware visual intelligence AI scanning feature for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max comes after he has previously been exclusive to the iPhone 16 series.
The App Store also gets review overviews generated by AI, while image playground will finally take advantage of the sketch style promised at the launch.
In addition, the list of supported Apple Intelligence is expanded in iOS 18.4. Recently supported languages include:
- Simplified Chinese
- Spanish
- Korean
- Japanese
- French
- German
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- Italian
And perhaps most crucial of all, users get access to nine new emojis in iOS 18.4, including future classics such as “Face with Bags Under Eyes”, “Shovel”, “Harp” and “Betroot”.
