- IOS 18.4 -Update seems to cause problems for carplay -users
- Symptoms include connection problems and lack of information about dashboard
- There is no solid solution yet that puts together the problem
Apple has just released iOS 18.4, which has brought a number of changes to users of many of the best iPhones. Unfortunately, it seems that the change has made Apple’s CarPlay platform useless for a number of people who bring the disruption of Apple’s entertainment system in the car.
And according to several posts on X and Reddit, it seems that the problems are not limited to a particular aspect of CarPlay. Instead, it seems that a wide range of Glitches will appear.
E.g. Shows User Nrein7 on Reddit to say that their car’s dashboard no longer shows now to play information after updating to iOS 18.4. Other Redditor’s chimdered in to say they were unable to connect their phone to their car in the first place, while others found that their iPhones would only connect when using certain USB ports, or would repeatedly disconnect and connect again over time.
We’ve reached Apple to find out if this is a confirmed problem and will update this story if we hear back about a potential solution.
Not just a car brand
Bugs appear to affect users of different cars and models, including Audi, Ford, Honda and Mazda. It suggests that the problem may lie with CarPlay itself than a particular carmaker’s software. In fact, a Redditor said Volkswagen had told them that “Apple has to fix” to bug, suggesting it is not down to Volkswagen’s own software. We’ve reached Apple to find out if this is the case.
Users have reported to try different methods to solve the problem, including restarting their iPhones, unpairing and repairing them with their cars and restarting their vehicles. Some have found these methods to work, but for others remained the problems.
Whatever the exact nature of the error is, it is a frustrating question to encounter and so far there is no confirmed solution. If you find yourself falling victim to this CarPlay accident, you might just have to wait for Apple to roll an update. The company has inserted iOS 18.5 Beta for testers and the full version is expected to be released next month. Hopefully it will provide a solution if there is no solution before then.
