Although we are still in an era with iOS 18, we already hear some key rounds about iOS 19, Apple’s next big iPhone software update.
From speculation about new features to the possibility of a massive design overhaul, there is already plenty of hum about what Apple could bring to its mobile operating system.
In addition, there may be huge new Apple Intelligence features on the way, with Siri specifically ready for a renewal.
Continue reading for an overview of everything you need to know so far about iOS 19.
Cut to the hunt
- What is it? The next big update for iPhone’s Operating System
- When is it out? Probably September
- Who gets it? If you have purchased a new iPhone in the last five years you are likely to be able to upgrade to iOS 19
iOS 19: Rumors for release date
iOS 19 is probably launched in September 2025 along with the expected iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and possible iPhone 17 Air.
Although we have not yet heard any solid rumors of accurate release dates, Apple is usually launching larger version updates of iOS along with that year’s iPhone lineup.
Likewise, we do not know for sure when the iPhone 17 family is released, but Apple has stayed until September for many years, so this feels like a safe effort.
iOS 19: Rumored new features
IOS 19 is expected to launch with a variety of useful new features ranging from oversighted apps to an Apple Intelligence-driven Siri, finally.
A new camera -App
iOS 19 could bring a redesigned camera app where you take design signals from Visionos.
We have previously heard that this could be part of a wider UI Redesign that would expand this Visiono’s inspiration across the entire iOS, but at the time of writing we have only seen supposed screens of the new camera app.
The redesigned app removes the mess of the current interface, rather than using transparent icons and overlays to pull off options in menus.
Apple Intelligence, Meet Siri
At one point or another, Siri was to get a larger Apple Intelligence upgrade at one point during the iOS 18 -Life cycle, but Apple is now joking to bring users this update later in the year (as bold Fireball reports)
For us, it suggests that Siri could get his long -awaited inspection with iOS 19, either at the launch or during a mid -year update.
As we have recently covered, Siri is well overdue a decent update – it is currently struggling to answer even basic questions.
RCS encryption
Apple made waves late last year by activating RCS messages on iOS, but users were left without access to one of the greatest benefits of RCS-by-to-end encryption.
End-to-end encryption ensures messages by encrypting them in code that is only decreased by the sender and the recipient-what effectively means that your message cannot be understood if captured.
We expect a new RCS standard developed by the GSM Association and Partners, including Apple, will come to iOS 19, finally giving Apple users the full capabilities of RCS.
AirPods could get live translation
As macumors regain, a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that AirPods can get the ability to translate spoken languages in real time thanks to a new Apple Intelligence feature in iOS 19.
Gurman is the largest source of Apple rumors and insights that give this rumor some additional weight.
The way this allegedly works is by picking up speech with AirPods microphones and forwarding the translated sound through AirPods’ speakers. The AirPods carrier then gets their speech picked up and forwarded by their iPhone speaker, which theoretically enables conversation.
There may also be accompanying updates on the way to iPhone’s translation features.
iOS 19: Redesign rumors
One of the largest iOS 19 rumors we have seen so far relates to a design monitoring for Apple’s user interface that we have not seen in over ten years.
Words about a redesign come from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, so while this is still very much an unofficial rumor, there is some weight behind it. Gurman has a big track record, though he tends to shine over times, he got things wrong.
iOS 19 has been rumored to bring the biggest redesign to the iPhone software experience since iOS 7 was launched with the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.
This redesign can take signals from the Apple Vision Pro’s VisionoS software, introduce several circular elements and make use of transparent overlays.
We recently reported on a suspected leaked screen of a new camera app that follows this new Visionos-inspired design philosophy.
iOS 19: Rumored compatible devices
The list of devices compatible with iOS 19 is likely to look like the list of devices compatible with iOS 18, however, naturally expanded to include the iPhone 17 family.
Conversely, we can see Apple Drop Support for the oldest currently supported iPhones-IPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.
However, this loss of support for the older iPhones is not safe – the models mentioned above were all eligible to upgrade to iOS 18, despite being the oldest phones to run iOS 17.
In any case, it is a pretty sure effort that all iPhones released next to or after iPhone 11 support iOS 19.
