- The second iOS 26.1 Beta is out now
- It includes a redesigned alarm screen that requires a weld to turn off alarms
- Other changes include custom training and a shift to automatically downloading security improvements
It’s never fun to be missing an alarm, and with iOS 26.1 update, it seems that Apple will reduce the chances of doing so.
The second iOS 26.1 Beta is out now, and macumors have found that – among other things – it changes the design on the alarm screen, so that rather than just having to press a button to turn off the alarm, iron over the screen.
It is a change that should mean that you need to be more awake to actually turn off the alarm, and that also means you don’t accidentally turn it off if you just wanted to snooze it (the action that was and remains a simple tap).
The same slide-to-stop design is also used by timers in iOS 26.1 Beta 2-it is probably less necessary there, but can still come along well and keep the interface consistent.
Of course, it is a beta, it is possible that Apple will further change things – or return to the current alarm screen – to the finished iOS 26.1 release, but this seems to be an obvious improvement so we would be surprised if it didn’t roll out.
New features and visual adjustments
And this is not the only change in the latest iOS 26.1 beta. Other updates include the ability to perform customized training in the Fitness app and a new tilt on the setting screen to automatically download and install security improvements.
Most of the other changes are visual rather than functional. For example, there are changes in the adjustment of some of the headings and images in the Settings app, folder names that are adjusted to the left rather than the middle when you open them, and iOS 26-Theme wallpaper displayed in the view section of the setting app, rather than iOS 18.
So this is not the biggest update, but especially the alarm changes can make a huge difference to some users.
To download iOS 26.1 Beta, you must first sign up for betas on the Apple Beta Software Page if you haven’t already done so, and then go to Settings> General> Software Update> Beta updates to download the latest beta on your iPhone.
Of course, the usual warnings – Beta software are unfinished and potentially unstable, so it’s not for everyone. We would expect iOS 26.1 to leave Beta for the next few weeks, so you shouldn’t have too long to wait for a steady release.
