Although we are still in at least one mid-year update for iPados 19, we already hear some juicy rumors about the next big update to Apple’s tablet operating system.
iPados 19 is likely to be revealed at WWDC in June 2025 after the trend from previous years. Similarly, we expect Apple’s next big iPados upgrade to come to general release in September 2025, around the time we expect the iPhone 17 series to be launched.
Apple does not release iPads annually in the way it does iPhones, so we are not sure if any new iPads will be launched with the new software. We would expect all current Gen-IPADs to support iPados 19 by release.
Continue reading for a Roundup of the 4 largest iPados 19 rumors we’ve heard so far, as well as 2 additional things I would like to see come to the iPad platform.
- iPados 19 is still quite far away but we’ve already heard some keys rumors
- New Homescreen features may be on the way as well as a new low-power mode
- New features that are shared with iOS 19
Attached files on the home screen
Apple fans have called a lot for more iPad-IPAD style in iPad for a few years now and honestly I get it. The iPad Pro and iPad Air are especially as powerful on paper as certain MacBooks, powered by the M series Chipset with as much as 16 GB of RAM.
We do not expect iPados 19 to push Apple’s tablets drastically closer to the desktop experience, but a remarkable tipster suggests that at least one new desktop style feature is on the way.
According to the long -standing tipster Majin BU, the iPados 19 will bring the opportunity to pin files and folders to the home screen as we imagine means that they will appear in the same way as app icons.
This can add flexibility to the iPad experience so users can create pages on their home screen with each focused on different projects or folders. Users have long been able to add sites and widgets to the iPad home screen, so adding files feels like a natural expansion.
A new low -power state
A further rumor from Tipster Majin BU notes that iPados 19 could bring a revised low power mode to Apple’s tablet lineup.
The rumor suggests that iPados 19 will fold low power mode in Apple Intelligence using AI to optimize performance and preserve the life of the battery.
Currently, the iPad’s low-power mode prioritizes essential tasks, dims the screen and locks the screen to a refresher speed of 60 Hz on models with promotional screens (which only includes iPad Pro models at the time of writing).
Although I’m noticed AI skeptic, it sounds like a great way to use it. Some of my concerns about AI are dealing with power efficiency, so if Apple seeks to use it to save energy, I’m glad to look with curiosity rather than doubt.
Apple Intelligence, Meet Siri
Siri will have its long-awaited Apple Intelligence update with the next big iPados update in line with contemporary updates for iOS and MacOS.
Apple had initially tried to initiate Siri with the full power of Apple Intelligence via a middle-year-old iPado’s 18 update, but unfortunately this has not been realized.
In addition to marking another chapter in the cluttered roll -out of Apple Intelligence, this has led to different commentators adjusting their expectations and putting sights on iPados 19 as Siris Savior.
As we have recently covered, Siri is well overdue an update as it still struggles to answer certain basic questions.
A possible redesign
As we previously reported, Bloomberg’s resident Apple expert Mark Gurman has suggested that iOS 19, iPados 19 and MacOS 16 come with an important Visionos -inspired Redesign -seems transparent windows, circular icons and less visual mess.
Although we have not seen many rumors focused on the possible iPados audit, we have seen images that allegedly show the redesigned iOS camera -App.
Although most of the latest Apple Software -Redesigns have touched iOS, it tracks that iPados would receive a similar visual update as the two typically reflect each other when it comes to aesthetics.
Technically, iPados has never had a major redesign when the operating system only diverged from iOS in 2019. The last big iOS Redesign came in 2012 with the introduction of iOS 7.
What i want to see from iPados 19
I’ve been an iPad user since long before I joined the Techradar team, and my reliable 2020 iPad Pro is still ticking together -but like many others, I think there are a few important things Apple could do to raise the experience with iPados 19.
The first is properly floating window support. I don’t care if it’s packed as part of stage manager, I just want to be able to change the size of Windows as desired and place them where I want. I have given up wishing iPad should behave exactly like a Mac, but I don’t think this will cross any boundaries.
As mentioned, the iPad Pro and iPad Air are now both Sports Desktop-Class chipset that is more than able to run and change the size of multiple windows ice cream for first-party apps.
The other feature I would like to see added is a software split keyboard. It honestly confuses me that my 11-inch iPad Pro does not support this feature tablet is thin and laptop, but just too big to write comfortably when kept vertically.
So there you have that-my two-part wish list. Tell us what you want to see from iPados 19 in the comments, and for an update on Apple’s current tablet lineup, check out our list of the best iPads.
