- IPhone 17 -luft will apparently be only 5.5 mm thick
- It’s even slimmer than Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge
- However, it now looks very likely to have only a rear camera
The iPhone 17 Air is a rumored phone that – no matter what can be good or bad about it – will largely be judged on how slim it is. After all, it seems slim to be the whole USP. And on that front it can be a success.
In a new YouTube video, Frontpagetech (via notebookcheck) has claimed that the iPhone 17 air will only be 5.5 mm thick, which would make it even slimmer than the 5.8 mm thick Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. Although it is only a difference of 0.3 mm, this can still be a big win for Apple, as the S25 edge would be this rumor of the phone’s biggest competitor and is also sold to be slim.
Of course, we would take this thickness requirement with a pinch of salt, especially since Frontpagetech has a mixed track record. But recently they have been quite more often than they have been wrong, and this leak is widely in line with previous iPhone 17 air leaks – although you put it on a slightly leaner 5.44 mm and another at one marginally thicker 5.65 mm. In all cases, leaks suggest that it will have Samsung’s rival telephone beat on that front.

Compromised cameras and a cost of plus level
However, the iPhone 17 -AUM probably does not have the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge -beat in any other way, as this latest leak -among many others -suggests that the iPhone 17 air has only a single 48MP camera. It is unlike a double-lens camera on the S25 edge, consisting of both a 200MP head sensor and a 12MP ultra-camera. So it seems that Apple is likely to prioritize thinness rather than photography.
Other specifications have also been leaked here, and again repeatedly repeats what we’ve heard before. This includes an A19-but does not the A19 Pro chipset, 12GB of RAM and a 6.6-inch screen with a 120Hz update speed.
The video also highlights the battery and says Apple will use one with a silicon anode to achieve a higher density than would otherwise be possible, and that this – combined with an effective modem and chipset – could mean that the iPhone 17 air will last almost as long as the base iPhone 17 despite the limited space for a battery.
Finally, the video touches the price and says the iPhone 17 Air will cost about the same amount as the iPhone 16 Plus – a phone starting at $ 899 / £ 899 / AU $ 1,599. This is also in line with several previous leaks.
We should find out if all this is correct or not in September, as it is when the iPhone 17 Air is expected to start – along with the rest of the iPhone 17 series.
