- The iPhone 17 Series could be revealed on September 9
- It might be sent on September 19
- We have detailed five of the biggest changes you can expect from these phones
We have long predicted – based on Apple’s usual patterns – that the iPhone 17 series would be announced on September 8, 9 or 10, and now a leak agrees with us while we are also becoming more specific.
According to “Internal information from German mobile phone providers” shared by iPhone-Ticker.de (via Gsmarena), the iPhone 17 Series-Inclusive iPhone 17 itself, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max-Sen will be revealed on Tuesday, September 9.
They add that these phones are then apparently sent a week and a half later, Friday, September 19th.
While we would take these claims with a pinch of salt, it is credible that large retailers would now have this information. Plus, it fits with our own predictions and is not in conflict with other leaks, so so far we say 9 September to be the most likely message date.
In which case there is only just over a month to wait for Apple’s next handset, and these phones are probably worth waiting for as several upgrades and changes have been tipped. Below we have erected five of the biggest changes we expect.
1. A new design
The biggest change tilted to the iPhone 17 line is perhaps a visual, with several sources suggesting that these handsets are getting a redesign.
The most important change is likely to come to the camera block, which will reportedly run all over the width of the back of most models, giving these phones a more Google Pixel 9-like look.
This change could also allow for more of a two-tone color scheme, where the large camera block is glossy, while the rest of the back is more matte.
2. An iPhone 17 -air instead of an iPhone 17 Plus

Another major rumored change is the replacement of the plus model with an iPhone 17 air. This new model will reportedly be far slimmer than any previous iPhone, which is likely to come in at about 5.5 mm thick, which would make it a more direct rival to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.
However, as a result of being so slim, it can also have a small battery and is believed to have only a rear camera.
So it’s a phone that can prioritize style rather than specifications, though it could still have a large 6.7-inch screen like iPhone 16 Plus.
3. An update rate of 120Hz for each model

Apple has continued to stick to 60Hz screens on the base iPhones, despite the fact that most mid-class Android phones have had 120Hz screens for years now. But with the iPhone 17 line, Apple can finally come with The Times.
Numerous reports suggest that all four expected models will have a 120Hz screen, which should make a roller feel smoother.
However, a source claims that although the screens will all be 120Hz, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air still do not have a variable update speed, which means that, unlike their pro-siblings, they would probably not support the always-on-display as this needs a very low update speed to work without breaking down the battery. Either way, giving them a 120Hz update speed certainly would be an upgrade.
4. New cameras

The iPhone 17 series is also rumored to get some new cameras, with any model set in favor.
First, all four expected iPhone 17 models will apparently have a 24MP front-facing camera, giving you twice the megapixels in the current 12MP. We have also heard that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max could have a 48MP tel camera, which would be up from only 12MP on the current models.
Some less likely but still possible upgrades we’ve heard of include 8K video recording for the Pro models and a mechanical aperture for at least one iPhone 17 model. The latter upgrade allows you to adjust the opening and therefore also the in -depth sharp.
And there are also some rumor camera upgrades that we are not convinced that we will see, but cannot completely exclude, including an 8x optical zoom for the iPhone 17 Pro models and another camera control button for all four models.
5. A great boost in power

Finally, a completely surprising but still appreciated upgrade that we hear about is a power increase thanks to a new chipset.
Specifically, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max could have a new A19 Pro chipset, while the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air could have an A19 chipset. In all cases, it should be an improvement as the current models use the A18 or A18 Pro chip set.
In addition, the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and possibly also iPhone 17 Air could have 12 GB RAM – up from 8 GB in the iPhone 16 series.
