- Upgraded Magsafe chargers have been viewed in archives
- IPhone 17 could support up to 50W wireless charging
- Price increases for the new models are predicted
We count the weeks until the iPhone 17 reveals, which should be sometime in September, and a few new leaks have caught our attention. In short: There is good news and there is bad news.
First, the positive news is that Apple’s flagship telephone series may get a boost with regard to its wireless Magsafe charging compared to the iPhone 16 series.
As discovered by 91 kmobiles, Apple has submitted legislative archives in Taiwan for two new Magsafe charger models with model numbers A3502 and A3503.
Of crucial importance, the chargers support the Qi 2.2 standard, which means a large leap in wireless charging power: 50W, as opposed to the 25W on which the current iPhone’s maximizes (the current Magsafe Tech is limited to Qi 2.0).
The Qi 2.2 standard also brings improved efficiency to cut down on heat production and energy loss, as well as better magnetic adjustment -so these new Magsafe chargers need to click in place better than ever before. The signs promise that the new models will offer improved charging speeds for the iPhone 17.
Price rises
Less encouraging reports 9TO5MAC on a prediction from analysts at Counterpoint Research, suggesting that the starting price for an iPhone will increase this year – primarily because of the ongoing US customs situation.
Some of these customs costs will be transferred to the consumers of Apple, says Counterpoint Research, although it does not specify what the price increase can be or what models can be most affected. Until now, Apple has resisted to raise prices on its current lineup, including the newly launched iPhone 16E.
Of course, this is all unofficial for now, and the customs situation may look very different in September 2025, but you might start saving. The iPhone 16 starting price was set at $ 799 / £ 799 / AU $ 1,399 when it was launched last September.
The rumors of an iPhone 17 prize increase have swirled all year, so this latest prediction is not really a surprise. Insider sources and analysts from Samsung Securities have both speculated that the iPhone 17 could cost more than its predecessor – not only because of customs, but also due to new costs for Apple and new features in the handset.
