The iPhone 17 Series is here-and while the pre-launch rumors pointed to potential price increases, fortunately they were not realized on Apple’s big iPhone launch event.
As you can see in our collapse below, the iPhone price news is pretty much positive, especially if you’ve been thinking about picking up a base iPhone 17. There are also some decent notice discounts offered to those who want to pre-order from this Friday 12 September.
At the other end of the scale, Apple also announced its most expensive iPhone ever, with the new 2TB version of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which took its price to MacBook Pro levels for $ 1,999 / £ 1,999 / AU $ 3,799.
Still, most of us are not looking to spray that kind of money on a new phone, so for everyone else here is the full collapse of how each iPhone model is compared to its corresponding from last year …

The best iPhone price news this year is for the base models. IPhone 17 starts at $ 799 / £ 799 / AU $ 1,399 – It’s the same price as last year’s 128 GB models, so you get double storage at no extra cost.
That’s even better news for the 512 GB model, which has actually fallen by $ 100 / £ 100 / AU $ 150. You can pre -order one from September 12 for $ 999 / £ 999 / AU $ 1,799.
The only downside to the base iPhone 17 is perhaps that there is no 1TB storage option with only the two capabilities offered.

The 5.6 mm-thick iPhone air has effectively taken the baton from the iPhone Plus series and is reflected in its pricing.
The 256 GB version, for example, is the same price as the last year’s iPhone 16 Plus for $ 999 / £ 999 / AU $ 1,799. It is the same story for the 512 GB version (except for an AU $ 50 fall in Australia), but you also now get a 1 TB option.
Is it worth the small price increase from the base iPhone 17? Well, it only has a 48MP camera, but if you want a phone that only weights 165g and yet still packs in an A19 Pro processor it may be for you.

Fortunately, despite rumors that Apple may give its pro series a small price bump this year, this is fortunately not realized.
There is no 128 GB model anymore, but the 256 GB version is the same price as the iPhone 16 Pro in the US, UK and Australia. In fact, the only small difference for the other models in Australia with an AU $ 50 -fall for 512 GB version and an AU $ 100 hiking trip to the 1TB version.
If you need a little more storage, unfortunately there is no 2TB option on the iPhone 17 Pro – unlike Pro Max …

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is of course the most expensive of these phones, with prices starting at $ 1,199 / £ 1,199 / AU $ 2,149. Fortunately, it’s the same as the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s start brand from last year.
If you want identical storage in Pro and Pro Max you will look at a $ 100 / £ 100 / AU $ 200 price difference. This year, Apple has introduced a new 2TB version for the first time at Pro Max, but be prepared to pay MacBook prices -the most expensive iPhone will ever cost $ 1,999 / £ 1,999 / AU3,799.
For context, it’s the same price as a MacBook Pro with an M4 Pro Chip, 24 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage. Not cheap, but then the most powerful iPhone was never made.

So how is Apple’s new iPhones compared to some of their closest rivals? Well, Base Pixel 10’s starting price is the same as the iPhone 17, but offers only half the warehouse (128 GB compared to 256 GB). This means that it is probably worth waiting to see which discounts are available on pixels around the US holiday season in November (when we typically see discounts of about $ 150).
As for Pixel’s Pro models, their launch prices are slightly lower than the iPhone 17 Pro equivalents on the higher capabilities, although the 256 GB capacity prices are identical. You can also get a 128 GB model for only $ 999 / £ 999 / AU $ 1,699, but it’s not right. How is everything compared to the S25 series when it was launched?

The interesting comparison from the above table is how the S25 edge is compared to Apple’s new iPhone Air. When launched, Samsung’s slim phone was more expensive than its Apple equivalent – with $ 100 / £ 100 / AU $ 50 for the 256 GB model – but it has two cameras compared to Air’s.
Interestingly, the S25 was also more expensive than the iPhone 17, where the 128 GB model cost the same as Apple’s 256 GB equivalent. It will be interesting to see if Samsung levels things up with the Samsung Galaxy S26 series in January.
Apple has taken prices to the extreme in the other direction, with its new 2TB iPhone 17 Pro Max, which hits $ 1,999 / £ 1,999 / AU $ 3,799 mark. Again, it is pretty much because its rivals do not offer a similar capacity, but that is likely to change in 2026.
