- A chart that allegedly shows the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s steam chamber is leaked
- This is the third time we’ve heard this phone could have a steam chamber
- A steam chamber would help keep the phone cool and thereby help its sustained performance
At this point, it looks pretty likely that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a steam chamber as we follow from two separate sources that say as much as we have now seen a chart of it.
This was shared by iOS developer @lusiroy8 on x (via telephone arena), and although they don’t have much of a track record for leaks, the fact that this is the third time we hear about a steam chamber to believe there is a reasonable chance that it will happen.
The image itself is not very detailed, but it seems that the steam chamber would be quite large if this is accurate, which may mean that it will be designed to pull heat away from the phone’s storage and RAM as well as the chipset.
A steam chamber – for those who do not know – is a metal chamber filled with fluid and that fluid turns into steam when it gets hot. This steam then spreads over the surface area of the chamber and pulls heat away from internal components – especially the chipset.
This type of cooling system is already used in many Android phones, but so far Apple has been dependent on different and less effective methods of cooling its iPhones, with current models that depend on graphite sheet.
Cooler and faster for a longer time
So by switching to a steam chamber, the iPhone 17 Pro Max must be able to stay cooler for a longer period of time, which in turn can help it maintain pointed performance for a longer period of time, as once a phone gets too hot, the performance is typically reduced to help it cool down. A steam chamber could also help keep the phone cooler to touch and prevent heat damage from the components.
So there are many benefits to a steam chamber and we are therefore hopeful that Apple will include one. However, the big question is whether all iPhone 17 models get a steam chamber, just the pro models or just the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
This latest leak refers straight to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but a previous leak pointed to its recording in both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the earliest steam chamber leakage suggested that all four models could have one.
However, we had to find out which – if anyone – has a steam chamber soon, as Apple will hold an event on September 9, where it will almost certainly advertise these phones.
