- A delicious claim that the iPhone 17 Pro will see a price increase of $ 50
- It can be accompanied by a storage rise to 256 GB
- IPhone 17 Pro is only weeks away from the launch
Apple’s iPhones are not known to be cheap and you definitely pay a prize if you want to buy one. Unfortunately, there are hints that we could see a price increase when the iPhone 17 Pro is launched in a month’s time, but it may come with an upgrade that softens a bit.
The idea of the price increase was recently discussed by Leaker Instant Digital on the Chinese social media site Weibo. It said instant digital with some certainty that the iPhone 17 Pro would be $ 50 more expensive than the current iPhone 16 Pro, pushing the price for $ 1,049.
It is not yet clear whether this rumor price increase will be global or exclusively in the United States. The source also did not mention whether the price of the entry-level iPhone 17 would also change north, but it is an idea reported separately by the Wall Street Journal.
If correct, it is a disappointing development, though not exactly an unexpected. US President Donald Trump’s trading bariffer has increased the operating costs of almost any business affected by them and in many cases it is transferred to the consumer. Combined with increasing component costs, the $ 50 increase will not quite get out of the blue.
Still affected instant digital topic of whether the iPhone 17 Pro may be upgrading its base storage from 128 GB to 256 GB, though they said they were uncertain whether the storage shock would actually realize. If that happens, it can be a sensible way for Apple to justify the price increase of $ 50 and make it feel a little more tasty.
On-device or online storage?
The best iPhones offer some market -leading features, but an area where they have fallen behind their rivals is internal stock. IPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro all start with 128 GB of storage, while many rival phones offer more in their base-level offerings. The iPhone 16 Pro Max starts with 256 GB of storage, but it is also the most expensive phone in Apple’s lineup.
If $ 1,049 iPhone 17 Pro also comes with 256 GB of storage by default, it could effectively be seen as offering a price cut of $ 50 compared to 256 GB iPhone 16 Pro, currently costing $ 1,099. That said, users may not be happy to have to pay another $ 50 on top of the iPhone’s starting price, especially if they don’t feel they want to use the extra storage.
I’m not too worried about buying a 128 GB iPhone – I just did when I bought my iPhone 16 Pro – which I’ve never come close to running out of space, partly because I use 200 GB of Apple’s iCloud Storage to house my iPhone photos.
It costs me $ 2.99 a month and I will have to keep my iPhone in 34 months before my phone plus iCloud subscription will be more expensive than just buying a 256 GB iPhone at the front -and it gives me increasingly overall space than a 256 GB phone would. At the time these 34 months are up, I may have decided to upgrade to a newer iPhone, making a 128 GB iPhone and iCloud -Storing combination a good deal in my eyes.
But it’s not for everyone, and many users prefer a more spacious iPhone to handle a 128 GB phone and an iCloud subscription. For these people, the iPhone 17 Pro could possibly bring good news if the larger base storage prediction turns out to be accurate. We know for sure when Apple reveals its new devices to the world in September.
