A lift at Islamabad High Court (IHC) Premesis threw himself from the second floor to the ground floor Thursday, in the other such event reported on the courthouse in recent days.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the functioning lift had seven people inside at that time, including lawyers.

The situation caused panic, but all residents were surely evacuated after the court’s maintenance staff manually unlocked the doors using a key.

The court’s officials have not yet released a declaration of the cause of the malfunction, but concern about the lifting safety of the building has grown.

The incident follows a similar accident in which the prominent lawyer Latif Khosa and ten others were caught inside a lift in the same premises last year.

The lawyers remained trapped for about 45 minutes before being rescued by Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) rescue officials.

The incident, which occurred shortly after Khosa’s appearance in the Toshakhana case against Imran, left the lawyers in a cramped space without light or fan.

Naeem Haider Panjotha and Ali Ejaz Buttar were among the lawyers caught in the elevator.
Meanwhile, videos of the trapped lawyers circulated quickly on social media and triggered concerns and accusations of alleged “harassment.”

It was later revealed that the elevator was potentially overloaded and transported more people than its capacity.
The Supreme Court’s administration was accused of not doing anything to get the trapped lawyers out of the elevator. IHC moved into its news building last year.
