Authorities in the federal capital have temporarily closed key input and starting points in the red zone due to security concerns, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The affected locations include Express Chowk and Serena Hotel’s access routes, which remain closed so far, Islamabad -traffic police said in a statement, Express News reported.
Commuters have been asked to use alternative routes, including Nadra, Marriott and Margalla Roads. Vehicles running towards the red zone from Club Road can use Seventh Avenue.
Police have called on motorists to stay up to date through the police police in Islamabad Traffic Police in 1915 or through their official social media platforms.
In addition, security forces prevented another terrorist attack on a Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border checkpoint within a week, police officers said on Saturday.
About 15 to 20 heavily armed terrorists launched an attack before dawn on the Lakhani checkpoint using rocket throwers and other heavy weapons, according to a spokesman for Punjab police, Express News reported.
The attackers approached the post in small groups from several directions, but were detected through thermal imaging cameras.
Alert staff immediately responded with machine guns and mortar fire and forced the assailants to retreat.
“There are reports of significant militant damage, although accurate numbers remain unconfirmed,” the police spokesman added.
Six days earlier, a similar attack on the same checkpoint was repelled.
The operation was led by the regional police officer Dera Ghazi Khan Captain (RETD) Sajjad Hassan Khan, with backup teams from the district police who quickly reinforce the position.
Punjab -Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar praised the forces for their quick action to prevent the attack. Police have so far successfully rejected 19 similar assaults on border checkpoints.
