PESHAWAR:
In a move to increase student safety and prevent potential misconduct, the Department of Political Science at Islamia College Peshawar has issued detailed guidelines banning female students from any form of direct contact with male faculty members.
According to an official notification issued by the department, all interaction between female students and male teachers has been completely banned. Female students are strictly prohibited from entering male teachers’ offices, while male students are similarly barred from entering female teachers’ offices.
To meet academic and other concerns, the college has appointed separate male and female assistant professors as coordinators for male and female students respectively. Any student requiring a meeting with a faculty member of the opposite gender must obtain prior No Objection Certificate (NOC) approval.
The order further states that exam-related questions or complaints must be sent to the Student Complaints Committee for clarification, without direct faculty interactions.
This directive is in line with broader provincial efforts by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department to reduce the risk of harassment in public universities, including mandatory female faculty coordinators for female student complaints and regular awareness seminars on protection laws.
The guidelines, effective immediately, are intended to promote a transparent, safe and accountable academic environment at the historic institution.
