An Israeli attack near an auxiliary distribution point run by Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) killed at least 30 people in Rafah, said the Palestinian news agency Wafa and Hamas-associated media on Sunday.

There was no immediate comment from Israel about the reported attack, as Wafa said the wounded more than 115 people.

GHF, also supported by Israel, recently began operating in Gaza.

While some Palestinians have expressed concern about its neutrality and biometric and other controls Israel said it would use, Israeli officials maintain that it allows for screening of recipients to exclude someone who turned out to be associated with Hamas.

Hamas has submitted a counterroposal to the United States for a potential ceasefire in Gaza, including a 60-day ceasefire, limited hostages, and the introduction of negotiations on a permanent ceasefire. However, the United States has quickly rejected the answer as “totally unacceptable.”

According to documents obtained by Al JazeeraHamas has offered to release 10 living Israeli prisoners in three stages and return the bodies of 18 more. On the other hand, it requires the release of an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners.

The proposal also calls for the entry of unconditional humanitarian assistance through the UN and affiliated agencies and to negotiate a permanent ceasefire to begin the ceasefire. Hamas also requested a guarantee from the Trump administration – quoted in the draft proposal – to support conversations against a final solution.

The American special envoy Steve Witkoff criticized the answer and said it would only “take us back” and called on Hamas to accept the framework already presented by Washington and its allies.

“That’s the only way we can close a 60-day ceasefire agreement in the coming days, with half of the living hostages and half of those deceased coming home to their families,” Witkoff said in a post of X, formerly Twitter.

A senior Hamas official who spoke to regional media said the group’s counter offering was intended as a “positive answer” and focused on ensuring a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and a binding ceasefire.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated the US emission assessment and rejected Hamas’ proposal and accused the group of remaining rooted in “rejection.”

Israeli war against gaza

Gaza’s Ministry of Health said on Sunday that at least 3,785 people had been killed in the territory since a ceasefire collapsed on March 18 and took the total toll of the war to 53,939, mostly civilians, according to AFP.

Israeli’s atrocities have expelled about 90% of Gaza’s estimated 2 million inhabitants, created a serious hunger crisis and caused widespread destruction across the territory.

The Israeli army has been pursuing a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023 and killed at least 61,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, according to Al Jazeera.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide at the International Court of Justice for his war against the enclave.
