- Erickson’s comments come after season 2 section 5’s emotionally devastating ending
Resignation Creator Dan Erickson has a message to fans of the Hit Apple series after season 2 Episode 5’s surprising ending: Be concerned about Mark Scout.
At the forefront of Apple TV Plus Mystery Thriller Show’s return on January 17th I sat down with Erickson to pick his mind about Resignation Season 2’s first six episodes. And considering what turns out in his fifth episode, entitled ‘Trojan’s Horse’, I couldn’t give the opportunity to ask Erickson about where this particular tale is on the way. In short: in a ominous direction.
Full spoilers immediately follow for Resignation Season 2 Episodes 3 and 5.
One of this season’s great history lines has been about Mark Scout’s desire to review the experimental (and potentially uncertain) procedure known as ‘reintegration’. It is an operation that in theory allows one of Lumon Industries’ cut employees to combine their ‘Innie’ and ‘Outie’ Personas and thereby become a whole person again.
In Season 1, we learn that the unorthodox and dangerous technique developed by former Lumon scientist Asal Reghabi has been used on Mark’s colleague Lumon -College Petey. Fans don’t need me to remind them of what happened to Petey as a result of his own ‘reintegration’ process. It is not surprising that Mark has resisted Reghabi’s attempt to convince him to try to ‘reintegrate’ as well.
Mark’s attitude toward the case is changing in Resignation Season 2 section 3. After the couple crosses trails late in this chapter, Reghabi Stun’s fields by revealing his wife Gemma, whom Mark’s ‘Innie’ has occasionally worked and talked to on Lumon (she is called MS Casey here) is still alive . Cue Mark performs a 180-degree turn and wants to ‘reintegrate’ so that his ‘outie’ can infiltrate lumon, find Gemma and save her.
Things took a back seat on ‘reintegration’ front in Resignation Season 2 section 4 and you can learn more about the Rate’s explosive events by reading my Resignation Season 2 section 4 Ending explained piece. However, Mark’s ‘Reintegration’ plan takes the center of three separate, not to mention extremely important, apartments in this season’s fifth post.
The first instance sees Mark’s ‘Outie’ card Get a glimpse of the Macrodata-UdFining Office that his ‘Innie’ works in. Next, Mark’s ‘Innie’ experiences a moment in the real world when his office table is replaced by a kitchen countertop and some pills . This is an inner shot of the home that Mark’s ‘Outie’ lives in, with the medicine are the tablets he needs to take to help with the ‘reintegration’ process.

Section 5’s largest Mark-Centric event (from an ‘outie’ perspective, yet) is reserved for the last few minutes. After a short chat with Reghabi in the basement of his home, Mark’s ‘Outie’ begins to hear Mrs. Casey’s voice in his head, which then begins to hurt. As he deals with the pain, he is suddenly transported to Lumon. After walking down the dark corridor that has become the subject of one of many enormous Resignation Season 2 Fan theories he is in one of Lumon’s sterile, bright passages. There, in both a heartwarming and soulful way, he comes short face to face with Mrs. Casey before being transported back to his real world home.
Obviously, the “reintegration” process works, otherwise Mark’s two people would not have visions of their counterparty worlds. So that’s a good thing, right? If Mark can fully ‘reintegrate’, can he save Gemma and reduce lumon from the inside, certainly? It’s not that straightforward, Erickson teases.
The closer he gets to that catharsis, the more dangerous he gets to lumon
Dan Erickson, severance
“I think we all agree that the healthiest for Mark would be to be whole again,” Erickson told me. “He wants to create peace between these different versions of himself and be able to live as a whole person. But the closer he gets on that catharsis, the more dangerous he becomes too lumon and therefore, the more danger he is in because They do not want them to be whole.
“I think many companies in the real world do not want their employees to think too much or have a holistic sense of who they are,” continued one of the best Apple TV Plus shows’ creator. “They like their vending machines and when you start to get less of an vending machine, you become more dangerous to them.
“At practical level, if Mark’s plan was to succeed, he would suddenly be able to take information in and out of lumon. But just at character level it means he gets a greater sense of himself and that he was in danger .
We find out how desperate and threatening things will be for Mark in Season 2’s last five episodes. Meanwhile, read more of Techradar’s coverage of Resignation under.
