When I first read the Short Synopsis of Prime Video’s The girlfriendI knew it would be a steaming watch. New to the Amazon streamer in September 2025, the series follows the tape of a (honestly, too close) mother and son who will be disturbed when his new girlfriend arrives at the stage.
Thanks to the thriller’s double perspectives in each episode, we have absolutely no idea who is the version of the truth is the right one. Daniel (Laurie Davidson) is left as piggy in the middle of the mess … but not until he harvests the benefits of having an incredibly hot girlfriend in Cherry (Olivia Cooke).
But are they always benefits? There is no doubt that the new Amazon show is one of the most erotic of the year, but sometimes it gets too close to comfort. As you see in the trailer below, Laura (Robin Wright) is actually present in a particular sex scene, and that’s something that immediately felt “so wrong” for Davidson and Cooke.

“This is the thing – I spent the first four days building a mother and son relationship with Robin,” Davidson explains. “She is leading me at the same time. And than the next day Robin still instructs, but we are shooting life and I in a very intimate scene.
“Not the kind of thing you want your mom in the room for! I found it very strange because it felt very, very wrong. It was clear, it was an incredibly professional set, but it was like … he. I didn’t think you should be here.”
As you could expect, The girlfriend‘s Intimate Scenes can be seen from Get-Go, which Cherry and Daniel meet and quickly fall in love with each other. Without destroying too much, Laura quickly becomes a presence in these in several ways, from possible imagination to, yes, unfortunate timing.
Of course, this is done the more strange by Wright also behind the camera. With the crew that lavish praise for his fearless leader was to have this dynamic that made to shoot the scenes much more fun than usual for cooke.
“It’s more exposed than usual,” she tells me. “Although I can’t remember there was a day when it felt like too much and it was pretty funny. We all came together so well, we were such a densely knitted trio.
“None of these scenes ever felt too hard to access or reach. I’ve never been directed by my colleague actor before and that command chain is getting much shorter. Robin is even able to instruct me right through the way she performs. I loved it. It made everything so much more energetic and efficient.”
All six episodes of The girlfriend Will be released on Prime Video on September 10th.
