- Spotify is upgrade is free level for the first time in seven years
- Now users can press and play any song they want on a playlist, or by using the search box
- These improvements are designed to give users more playback control but they still miss out on some fun premium features
Spotify’s free level offers users a small dose of the advanced features that the platform has to offer, and despite its limited features and the presence of ads, is Spotify Free, where most people start before committing to a Premium subscription. Now Music Streaming Service is upgrading its free experience – and it’s long overdue.
Spotify is warm on the heels of launching Spotify Lossess, Spotify upgrades his free experience with new features that give you more control over the music and podcasts you listen to. The current free level launched in 2018, so this roll -out marks the first major upgrade for free users of seven years, focusing on improving control features of the app.
The upgrade rolls out to users globally from today, and you can choose what you want to listen to by simply tapping a song in a playlist or via the search box, giving you more flexibility and control over your listening experience.
Before the new update, users had a little bit of a choice about what to play and when, as it was primarily a shuffle-only experience, and similar limitations also used shared songs on social media.
Listening to songs that others have shared for other social platforms came up with its own limitations, and free users couldn’t play them right away. Instead, they were put in a playlist and preview loop, resulting in a lot of frustration over social sharing experience. With the new upgrade, users can now press a song that a friend has shared to their social media site and jump right in.
According to Spotify, these upgrades to the free level are about more than just giving users more control over what they are listening to. It makes simple tasks such as curating playlists and navigation of features such as Discover Weekly easier, which in turn makes the overall streaming experience a more personal.
This also applies to Spotify wrapped, as the company affected during the livestreamed message and said, “Spotify Wrapped apparently shows you your most listened songs, so when you have more control over what you are playing and when, we mean Spotify wrapped will be even more valuable.”
What is still missing in Spotify’s free level?
Spotify’s free service is becoming even more manageable and entertaining for users – although these new features should always have been available in its free version. That said, still lacks an abundance of features – including Spotify’s popular AI DJ.
Now that the company has started paying little More attention to its free version, I wonder if this new upgrade opens the flooding ports of other practical features that come to the free level.
Under Spotify’s livestream, I asked about this, and Spotify told me: “This change is really about improving baseline -free experience and giving our listeners more control so that we can better meet their use cases about the overall listening experience. Having said, on Spotify, we always want to improve and see what features are sensible.
While it would be great for free users to get a little taste of the advanced features loved by millions of premium members, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Spotify retains most of these to pay only subscribers – that way more free users are likely to give to temptation and sign up for premium.
