On Tuesday, Jaffar Express – a train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar through a route passing through all four provinces – again targeted in the Shikarpur district of Sindh, while transporting passengers from Rawalpindi to Quetta. A prohibited terrorist group, Baloch Republican Guards (BRG), assumed responsibility for the attack.
Shikarpur -Vice Commissioner Shakeel Abbro told the media that the explosion took place around 10 pm. 8:15 Over a kilometer away from Sultankot railway station. DC said an improvised explosion device (IED) was used for the explosion.
“Four bogies were derailed and seven passengers were caused by damage due to the explosion. Four of them were moved to the combined military hospital and three to the Civil Hospital Shikarpur,” he added.
Pakistan Railways’ Sukkur Divisional Superintendent Syed Moalim said passengers were moved to the closer stations while cranes were moved to put Bogies back on the field.
The repair work on the damaged tracks continued throughout the evening. The train later went to the Jacobabad district on its way to Quetta, he added.
According to SSP Shikarpur Shahzeb Chachahar, the explosion targeted the track used by trains passing through Jacobabad to further destination.
“The police have started in search of the culprit,” he said. However, incident FIR could not be registered before filing the report.
Jaffar Express with at least 380 passengers on board were hijacked by the forbidden Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) on March 11 this year.
The attackers detonated explosives in tunnels and on the tracks before opening fire, stopping the train in a mountainous region that is difficult for authorities to access.
From March 11 to March 12, the Pakistani Army Operation Launched Green Bolan to save the train. The operation released 354 hostages and killed 33 bla rebels.
Three coaches of Jaffar Express were derailed near Shikarpur due to an explosion on July 28, leaving a wounded. In June, the detonation of a remote controlled explosion device mounted on railway tracks four bogies from Jaffar Express near the cattle market in Jacobabad.
