It’s been three and a half years ago Peacemaker Took the world by storm.
Suicide Squad The spin-off series that watched John Cena repeats his role as the Jingoist anti-hero of the 2021 flick in the character’s self-taint TV show was a big hit. Armed with the usual catches of a James Gunn project, the arrival of Season 1 final in February 2022 The early record for the highest single-day viewership of a HBO Max Original Episode. Not bad to go after a show with a C-LIST level Metahuman from DC Comics.
But PeacemakerThe first season had a trick up the sleeve that supercharged its success weeks before the launch of his last episode: a dance -inspired title sequence. The 80-second Intro of the 80-second intro that saw its full role strangely performing a very polished, choreographed routine set to Wig Wam track ‘Do you want to taste it?’ Was surprising when it was nice. Four billion views on Tiktok later, and author/director James Gunn, Cena and Company had an unexpected viral sensation on their hands.
With another season-one set in the restarted DC Universe (DCU), monitored by Gunn and colleague DC Studios Co-Ceo Peter Safran, rather than the now closed DC Extended Universe (DCEU) -Grelit not long after its ancestral final, a question dominated fans’ minds dominated. Well, the one who has nothing to do with, about events from Peacemaker Season 1 would nevertheless be considered Canon in Season 2 and the wider DCU: Would the show’s second excursion have its own similar dance -infused introduction?
The short answer is: Yes. And with the first episode of Peacemaker Season 2, entitled ‘The ties that are grinded’ out now, viewers can finally see it in all its glory.
However, what many fans are not aware of and/or potentially underestimated, the amount of time, forces and energy that went into this season is more complicated and more ambitious opening. And after three overwhelming years of putting together the said sequence, Gunn and the show’s ensemble are finally ready to reveal everything.
‘Julian, it’s a hungry world…’

Last season’s introduction owed very Gunn’s creepy ability – no, superpower – to choose the right track for a given scene or sequence in projects he writes, directs and/or produces. A self -conscious musicals, almost every one of Gunn’s works, such as Guardians of the Galaxy Film trilogy, he wrote and directed to Marvel, is full of striking, yet underrated songs that have become part of the cultural zeitgeist after their use in that productions.
Pressed to choose the perfect ditty to set Season 2’s Dansåbner, so was definitely turned on. And while Gunn tells me that this season’s song after Election-‘oh Lord ‘by Glam-Rock-Outfit Foxy Shazam-until was last resident because its lyrics bind into the themes of Season 2, it wasn’t the only option he UMM-ED and arranged.
“I don’t know if other songs came close [to being chosen]”Admits Gunn.”[But] There were a few others I was considering. There was another Foxy Shazam track and I was also thinking about using ‘Do you want to taste it?’ again. But at the end of the day I chose ‘Oh Lord’ because it was the best fit for this season’s tone, like ‘Do you want to taste it?’ was the right fit for season 1. ”
“You think hearing the same song again and again for 10 hours in a row would get old, but it never did for me,” reveals Steve Agee, who plays John Economos, with a laugh. “I really like the song and some of the guys from Foxy Shazam came over while we shoot the actual thing, so it was a lot of fun.”
Going again from the top

With his title track locked in, work soon began on the actual dance that the role crew had to perform on the day (or, as you learn later, days).
A lot of work went into this year’s opening dance sequence, even if you wouldn’t be able to tell by watching Frank Grillo. #Peacemaker season 2 tomorrow! pic.twitter.com/gtdp83tib7August 20, 2025
“Charissa worked it in advance before receiving James approval,” Agee explains. “Then she meets with us one-on-one or in groups of two or three because there are sections for the dance. So we would go in with her to practice the one she would record it and then send the file to you so you can practice at home.”
“We had a lot of individual and group test,” Frank Grillo, who repeats his role as Rick Flag Sr from Gunn’s Superman Movies and Creature Commandos Season 1, adds. “We got lots of homework to do and I’m glad I got to work at it at home because the idea of being on stage with so many people and being synced was something I didn’t think I would be comfortable with.”

Peacemaker 2‘s opening credit is certainly more complex than its predecessor’s. In fact, more people are involved this time, and with the first season’s dance sequence that is so well received, there is an inevitable requirement to make it bigger, bolder and better than what has come before.
For Jennifer Holland, the gymnast-turned actor who returns to play Emilia Harcourt, Season 2’s routine gave some particularly difficult traits for her to come right. In fact, with this season that further examined Harcourt and the titular character’s ‘will de, they will not’ dynamic, Barton felt it was important to lean into this aspect of the story with one Dirty Dancing-Inspired lift.
“There’s a piece where I’m going to go on wires and make this little spin in the air that was like a little Cirque you Soleil Moment, “Holland tells me,” but that lift was the most challenging thing I had to do. I didn’t get to practice so much with John because he is so busy – you never know if you’re going to practice with him from one day to the next one! But his stunt double, Spencer Thomas, was so amazing. He made sure I was prepared when I came on a set with John, I knew exactly what was expected of me. “
Dance that everyone looks at

The preparatory work – “We practiced for weeks,” admits Sol Rodríguez, who plays Sasha Bordeaux – as the role crew refers to, was critical when it came to shooting the actual thing.
Unlike last season’s single -day shoot, the role crew and crew got two full days to get the new title sequence in the can. Even with the extra time given to them, everyone was facing some kind of challenge.
“We have many more bad dancers this season,” Gunn says with a laugh. “Robert Patrick [who plays Auggie Smith] Was the only one we had last time, then shout to Frank, Tim Meadows [who plays Langston Fleury]And Michael Rooker [who portrays Red St. Wild] To step up and do their best! “
“I had to dance in Captain Triumph costume,” reveals David Denman, who plays Keith Smith. “It was a big challenge, but fortunately I didn’t have to do much in it, especially with the helmet on.”
“Dance in a mask is more difficult than you think,” adds Freddie Stroma, who repeats her role as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, adds. “You can’t really see, so most of the time you are worried that you are encountering someone or if you are about to go from the stage where it is really dark, you try to find out where the edge is so that you do not fall off.

Proverbs say “practice makes perfect” and it certainly pays off here. Well unless you’re rooker, Gunn says a laugh. “See it enough again and you will see what I mean,” he teases.
Rooker’s trouble being synchronized with his co -actors aside, there is no doubt that Season 2’s title sequence is as wonderfully entertaining as last season was – in fact, I said just as much in my Peacemaker Season 2 Review. Despite having to wear serious appearance on their faces as part of the routine, it is clear that they all enjoyed themselves.
“It was my last two days on set,” explains Stroma. “I didn’t get the last season either, so I had nothing to compare it to. But it was really fun to drop the accent I use in the show, relax and just have fun to dance.”
“The whole shoot was fantastic,” says Rodríguez. “Having the full role and James there, and all these great personalities who love to laugh, film on a great sound scene and have music that blasts away – I’ve never experienced anything like it.”
“It’s a full production,” adds Danielle Brooks, who plays Leota Adebayo. “James takes it all very seriously, but we had an explosion. I can’t wait to see all our fans learn it.”
