James van der Beek pulled on some heart strings when he shot talking to his children about his cancer.
In a recent chat about TodayOn July 30, the 48-year-old actor struggling with phase 3 colorectal cancer in the last eight months opened about the tough speech he had with his children about his health.
“I’m far from an expert, but our approach was just to be as honest as possible, so honest with the degree of their understanding, right? Because they know,” James said the third hour of the show.
The Dawson Creek Star noted that his children “can sense that Dad has a tough day.”
“They know if Dad is in pain. They know, and then by not telling them, I think you confuse them even more,” James continued.
When he took the moment to advise other parents, he encouraged them to tell their children if they are reviewing the same situations.
“When you tell them what you are doing and you tell them the approach, they can see it and they can feel it, and I think it’s your journey too is their journey,” he urged.
“I have kids making tea. ‘Dad, what do you need?’ There has been a lot of beauty that has come out of it, but I would very much like to save all this journey, which is why I say to be screened, ”added James of his six clusters, including Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, Joshua and Jeremiah, whom he shares with wife Kimberly van der Bee.
