Jamiat Ahl-E-Hade’s Central President Senator Professor Sajid Mir. – Senate in Pakistan

Sialkot: Jamiat Ahl-E-Hade’s Central President Senator Professor Sajid Mir died at the age of 86, family sources confirmed on Saturday.

According to the sources, Mir died of a heart attack. The priest was born on October 2, 1938 in Sialkot and completed his education at the University of the Punjab, Lahore.

Professor Mir continuously served as Senator from 2003 to 2025, and before that he was also a member of the House of Overhouse in Parliament from 1994 to 2000. He was elected to the Senate of a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket.

In addition to serving as the central president of Jamiat Ahl-E-Hadees, he also held the position of chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Science and Technology.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over MIR’s death. He said that MIR’s passing has created a void in Pakistan’s political landscape that may never be filled. The premiere added that MIR always raised his voice against extremism and sectarism, which stands as a golden chapter in his political and religious service.

Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz also offered compassion and expanded her sympathy to the deprived family.

Central spokesman for Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Shazia Marri, also expressed grief over Senator Mir’s death. She said his passing is a significant loss to parliament.

Marri said Mir’s name will always be remembered in Pakistan’s parliamentary history.
