Jamie Lee Curtis remembers her “first love” Robert Carradine after his death aged 71.
The Oscar-winning actress shared an emotional tribute on Instagram on February 24, revealing that she learned of his passing from Melanie Griffith, who co-starred with Carradine in 1977’s Joy ride.
“I woke up to the news that Robert Carradine died,” wrote Curtis, 67, reflecting on the beginning of their romance decades ago. The couple first met during a live recording of The Dinah Shore Showwhere, as Curtis recalled, “Bobby and I came last and Bobby rearranged where we were all sitting so he could sit next to me and he kissed me, live on television. A very public meeting sweet.”
The Cool Friday actress described their time together in Laurel Canyon as transformative. “We became a little family in a dirt house in Laurel Canyon, and that was my first experience of domesticity and motherhood and partnership,” she said, recalling fond memories of caring for her daughter Ever. She also remembered his sense of adventure, writing, “Bobby was a race car driver, and he was going fast and furious in a Corvette on Mulholland. It’s a miracle we didn’t get killed.”
Although their romance ended, Curtis said they “remained friends,” adding, “Rest in speed and humor and love, Bobby.”
