The tennis world was psyched to see Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz go on it again after the former beat the latter in the Wimbledon final.
But those who play on the Cincinnati Open final on Monday saw only five matches played between the two men’s singles Juggernauts as Sinner retired from the match with an apparent disease.
Thus, Alcaraz went home with the trophy.

“I’m super, super sorry to disappoint you,” Sinner told the crowd as he stayed on the field for the trophy ceremony. “From yesterday I didn’t feel big. I thought I would improve during the night but it came worse.
“I tried to get out tried to do it at least a little match. But I couldn’t handle anymore.”

Sinner never revealed what he had to do with, but he never looked like himself during the fight. Alcaraz took full advantage of a 5-0 lead in the first set.
After the fifth game, Sinner called for a coach to get out. It wasn’t long before Sinner told the President Umpire that he had to retire, which was announced throughout the stadium.
However, Alcaraz was as respectful as it could be in this budding rivalry between the game’s top players. He quickly ran over to console the culprit, and when he signed a camera lens on the field, he wrote, “Sorry Jannik.”

The question now will be whether Sinner will be healthy enough for the US Open, with the first round that begins next week in Queens, New York.
Sinner is the defending us open champion, and after winning in Wimbledon and the Australian Open, many caused him to repeat at Arthur Ashe Stadium in August.
However, Alcaraz has an American open title under his belt after winning it all in 2022, marking his first Grand Slam title and was named the youngest number a player in the world in the ATP history.

He also defeated Sinner in an exciting 2025 French Open final that went to a five-set draw.
