After NFL owners approved players to play flag football at Los Angeles Summer Olympics in 2028 earlier this month, both players and fans have dreamed of the potential team the United States could have.

However, the American men’s flag football team quarterback, Darrell Doucette III, has been firmly in his belief that flag football players should not be put aside just because NFL players are now allowed to participate.

Former Philadelphia Eagles Center Jason Kelce suggested an idea that would help determine which players, flag football or NFL, would represent Team USA in the Olympics.

“Let’s just have these (flag football) guys to play an NFL team selected and maybe the best team wins and represents the United States,” Kelce said during a recent episode of “New Heights.”

“I think a coach who is familiar with the flag football has to choose an NFL represented team. This team just has to play this flag football team that has been playing for a long time and feels like they are the best at it and they don’t need other guys. Then wins the one winning (going to the Olympics).”

Kansas City Chiefs Star Tight End Travis Kelce wondered if Doucette is “scared” of NFL competition.

“Is this guy afraid of competition?” Said Travis.

“Take a try and the best players do the team. He just boxes other people from joining the sport because they haven’t played the specific football style?”

The United States, led by Doucette, sat at the top of the world’s flag football ranks last year. Regardless of their location, Jason is “truly confident” that NFL players would be better.

“If these guys are the best, they should represent (team) the United States,” Jason said. “I don’t know anything about flag football, but I really feel sure they’re not the best.”
