Appear on Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter Podcast, he remembered how he juggled CBS Show that ran for nine seasons, his movie career and his stints to write projects.
“Judd had instilled this thing in us during freaks and nerds, where he said, if you can improve the way you can, then you can write. I just need to teach you to write,” the actor remembered his friend Judd Apatow’s advice and encouraged him to write.
He added that it was a “life -changing moment” remembered his friend’s words that were also director of 2007’s Knocked upWhere Jason was involved.
“If you can write something good enough,” can you always ‘get back on the steering wheel’, told the 45-year-old and added, “you are a weird guy and the only way you want to do it is if you write your own material.”
While he was trying his luck to write, Jason said HIMYM brought recognition and “financial security.”
Still, he also said he was “locked in playing a guy for a long, long time and then had to decide whether to work or rest under Hiatus.”
The Shrinking Star said that this was not a great trouble; However, combining film and television careers was the most difficult task.
“The way my life was for about six years was that I wanted to shoot how I met your mother.”
“And during that time, I would write a movie that we then shoot at the four months free and finished in time to get back to how I met your mother,” he continued.
“And it was a great time. It was an electrical time. But I also got a little tired and I didn’t start to enjoy myself so much,” the actor admitted.
“And it was a bummer because I did so cool things. So I was a tired guy,” Jason concluded.
