JBL Flip 7 and Charge 6 Bluetooth speakers are ready to launch soon, according to a press release from the company at Business Wire, which has now been removed – but is still visible via Wayback Machine.
It reveals that the new speakers will cost $ 149 and $ 199 respectively, and will be available for pre-ordering in the US from March 10, 2025-but will actually not be available until April 6. The price is an increase from the previous versions of both models launched at $ 129 and $ 179 respectively. In the UK we would expect them to cost £ 149 and £ 199 based on the current exchange rates. In Australia it works for about AU $ 295 and AU $ 395.
It’s unless you’re in China where flip 7 is that already Available to order with an early bird price of about $ 158, according to Gizmochina.
In addition to the usual JBL forces, it seems that the successors to the pretty good JBL Flip 6 and JBL Charge 5 borrow one of the best features of JBL Xtreme 4: AI Sound Boost mode. The release of Business Wire confirms that both speakers will support this technique and we explain why it fits well in a moment.
But the Gizmochina article says there is another welcome piece of optimization technology in Flip 7: A Battery Mode, squeezing another two hours out of the high capacity battery by turning off the base display and equalization settings. It should mean an improved battery life of 14 hours.
Why are we looking forward to hearing JBL Flip 7
I am the first person to mock fancy-sounding audio optimization technology because I have listened to a lot of it and found it deeply disappointing. But AI Sound Boost here could be good, based on when we’ve already heard it in action.
Here is Harry Padoan, who underwent JBL Xtreme 4 and described how the system worked for him: “AI sound increase in JBL Xtreme 4 has pretty controlled, powerful sound and at high amounts it did not distort at all – it seems to be to be to be to be the purpose of the technology.
Whether it’s AI, Engineering or a mixture of both, doesn’t really matter: If it helps JBL -FLIP 7 and charged to push more powerful sound without distortion than they could handle before, it can be a big victory for then Small speakers.
The Gizmochina articles describe Flip 7 as using a tweeter, racing track center driver and double bass radiators for sound, which is basically what Flip 6 offers.
It will be IP68 water and dust-resistant, but a nice upgrade will be the possibility of USB-C audio input for “lossless” sound, although I don’t know I would rely on a pint-sized portable speaker for that kind of faith …
Bluetooth 5.4 will provide the wireless technique, including support for Auracast, to allow you to use plenty of speakers together at once.
We do not have this kind of info for the fee 6 yet, but I would expect that they are basically identical except for a more powerful speaker setup in the charge, and a larger battery that can of course charge other devices.
JBL Flip 6 and JBL charge 5 both ranks between our list of the best Bluetooth speakers based on how good value they offer, and I suspect these two speakers will be the biggest competitors for the new models – with Flip 6 regularly available for Under $ 100 / £ 100, Flip 7 should be a clear upgrade.
