JCP appoints 12 SHC additional judges

Islamabad:

Although 12 names are approved for their appointment as additional judges of Sindh High Court, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has missed the opportunity to appoint a first judge from the minorities of the overall judiciary.

Since 18. Constitutional amendment in 2010, there is no judge from any minority society in the overall judiciary, which consists of the Supreme Court and five high courts.

However, there was a hope that JCP would approve at least one nominated from the minority community as additional judge for Sindh High Court during the meeting.

Previously, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Shafi Siddiqui had recommended two names from the minority community.

However, they were unable to get required votes at the meeting. One of them got eight votes at the JCP meeting that came short with a voice to become a SHC judge.

With regard to the approval of 12 nominations for additional judges from Sindh High Court, Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that PPP has won Sindh High Court judging election. “Future aspirants for the Judicial Office must be aware of this rather than worrying about irrelevant considerations such as burning their professional credentials,” he added.

With regard to the rejection of two nominees to SHC, Salahuddin Ahmed has said that finer considerations as promoting diversity in the judiciary often have to be sacrificed in such hot disputed election competitions.

Moiz Mirza Baig Adv said that although the nominations approved by JCP include prominent lawyers such as Osman Ali Hadi, Jaffer Raza and lawyer Hassan Akbar; Exclusion of lawyers suggested by the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, renewed concern about the appointment process after the 26th change.

Such concerns carry weighting the fact that the judges nominated by Chief Justice and Justice Shah include names like Umer Lakhani, Obaid Ur Rehman, Zeeshan Adhi, Zeeshan Abdullah, Umaima Mansoor and Atif Rafiq Chaudhary, all of whom are known for theirs to theirs Integrity and legal sharpness.

Another Karachi -based lawyer says he has been practicing in SHC for now 25 years and does not recognize at least half of them. Only three to four stand out as good, he adds.

JCP by Majority Has Approved The Nominations of Tasneem Sultana DSJ, Khalid Shahwani DSJ, Osman Ali Hadi, Nisar Bhanbhro, Jaffer Raza, Hassan Akbar, Abdul Hamid Bhurgri, Jan Ali Junjo, Miran Muhammad Shah, Ali Haider Ada, Raiazat Ali Ul Hassan Shah.
