JCP confirms 10 additional SHC judges

ISLAMABAD:

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of ten additional judges to the Sindh High Court (SHC) by a majority vote.

The Commission also appointed four judges to the High Court’s Constitutional Court. Interestingly, three of the judges assigned to the bench were among the 10 confirmed judges.

The JCP met in the conference room of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to make recommendations for confirmation of SHC additional judges and reconstitution and expansion of constitutional benches. The meeting was chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi.

According to an official statement, after due consideration of the relevant data form, antecedents and evaluation of material submitted to it, the JCP, by a majority of its total membership, recommended the confirmation of 10 additional judges as judges of the SHC.

They are Justices Miran Muhammad Shah, Tasneem Sultana, Riazat Ali Sahar, Muhammad Hasan (Akber), Abdul Hamid Bhurgi, Jan Ali Junejo, Nisar Ahmed Bhanbhro, Ali Haider ‘Ada’, Muhammad Osman Ali Hadi and Muhammad Jaffer Raza.

The commission also granted six-month extension to two more judges – Khalid Hussain Shahani and Syed Fiaz-ul-Hassan Shah.

Similarly, the JCP by a majority of its total membership nominated four judges to the constitutional benches of the SHC. They are the judges Amjad Ali Bohio, Muhammad Hassan (Akber), Ali Haider ‘Ada’ and Muhammad Osman Ali Hadi.

The commission also extended the mandate of the constitutional benches by six months.
