Jean Smart shares spine-cooling details about her knee injury

Jean Smart says, ‘How’s no screaming bloody murder about it?’

Jean Smart recently became honest about her knee injury and revealed that the operation forced her offstage for 2 weeks.

Monday, July 21, the 73-year-old American actress spoke with PEOPLE Magazine where she revealed new details of the knee injury before returning to her one-woman Broadway show, Call me IzzyTuesday, July 22.

Smartly shared that she “went down like a ton of brick” after she fell into New York City on July 4th while she went with her sons.

The Primetime Emmy-winning star admitted that she loves New York, but “sometimes the streets are a bit treacherous” with “holes and similar things.”

Smart said she was injured when she quickly turned to catch a cab and not saw one of the “hockey-puck-size” bases of a barrier on earth. She said barriers are there to “prevent cars from cutting the corners too close, I think.”

“When I was sitting there on the street waiting for the ambulance, a guy came along and stumbled over the same thing,” the star of A simple advantage noted.

In particular, the nurse revealed in the hospital’s emergency room, where smart was first taken, that the incident is quite common.

“She said, ‘Oh, I, I know exactly what you’re talking about. We’ll get one a day.’ And it’s in a small small hospital. Accountant Alun remembered.

It is relevant to mention that Smart was moved to another hospital where she underwent knee surgery with a “really wonderful surgeon” after four days, ie. on July 8th.
