Amazon Tycoon Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez bound the knot on Friday at a lavish ceremony with the rich and famous on an island in Venice’s lagoon, out of the sight and sound of protesters.
“This city seems impossible! It can’t exist, and yet this is!” An enchanted bezos told one La Repubblica Journalist Thursday, who came close to the magnate as he rushed around the canals by boat.
But protesters had a different view, wondering how long Venice can endure: While Billionaires Party, activists say the fragile city is sinking is exceeded by tourists and a victim of depopulation, as locals who are unable to pay rising rent are forced.
“No kings, no bezos” read a sign in Green Neon projected at St. Mark’s Campanile Tower Thursday night.
Serenaded
Sanchez late Friday published a photo on Instagram – under a new name, Laurensanchezbezos – showing her in a long floating white dress and him in black tie, though it gave no indication of where it was taken.

Bezos and Sanchez, a former news anchor and entertainment reporter, celebrated their weddings with guests including Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey and Orlando Bloom.
Tech Magnate, 61, and Sanchez, 55, are staying at Aman Hotel, a 16th -century luxury palazzo at the Grand Canal overlooking Rialto Bridge.
Other guests on the A-List stay at Gritti Palace and ST regis.
The couple exchanged promises at a black-slips ceremony on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore on Friday afternoon, according to Italian media reports.
The wedding is believed to have taken place in an enormous outdoor amphitheater on the island sitting opposite Venice’s iconic st Mark’s Square.
The newlyweds were to Serenades by Matteo Bocelli, the son of the famous opera singer Andrea Bocelli, reports say.

Michelin-star chef Fabrizio Mellino prepared the wedding dinner while the cake is made by French pastry Cedric Grolet, Corriere Della Sera said.
It is alleged that Sanchez has prepared 27 clothes to wear during the festivities.
‘Enchanted’
Wedding guests cracked with paparazzi as they jumped into boats included Jordan’s Queen Rania, French luxury goods, performing Francois-Henri Pinault, American footballer Tom Brady, US fashion designer Spencer Antle, singer Usher, and Ivanka Trump, daughter of US President Donald Trump, and her husband Jared Kushner.
The guests reportedly lunched on Thursday in the gardens of Villa Baslini on the island of San Giovanni Evangelista.

The parties are set to end Saturday with a party that is probably at Arsenale, a huge shipyard complex that goes back to when the city was a ship center.
Bezos and Sanchez donate three million euros ($ 3.5 million) to the city, according to Veneto’s regional President Luca Zaia and employs historic Venetian craftsmen.
Venice’s oldest pastry pink Salva bakes the 19th century “fishing biscuits” for party bags, which will also contain some of Laguna B known for its hand-blown Murano glass.
Trump and her family visited a glass -blowing workshop on the small island of Murano on Wednesday, according to the owner.
“They were amazed and enchanted by the magic of the glass,” Massimiliano Schiavon told the Corriere della sera, adding that the family had a walk by windy glass.
Venice, home to the oldest film festival in the world, is used to VIPs whistling around in speed boats, and fortunately hosted the star-studded news of Hollywood actor George Clooney in 2014.
Some say this wedding also brings good business.

Italy’s Ministry of Tourism said on Friday that it expected the wedding to bring the city almost a billion euros, by approx. 895 million of what is estimated to come from the “Media’s Consciousness” that was generated.
But critics say that Bezos, one of the world’s richest men and founder of a company that has been regularly investigated for how it treats its workers is different.
“Tax billionaires”, read protest signs along channels.
“In the time it takes you to read this, Jeff Bezos’s wealth has risen by more than your monthly salary,” they read in English and Italian.
Environmental activists have also pointed to the carbon footprint of mega yachts and dozens of private jets – at least 95 – bringing the rich and famous to the city.
But Samuel Silvestri, a 55 -year -old seller, welcomed Extravaganza.

“Over-tourism is caused by the people who come with a backpack and their own food, and contribute very little,” he said, “not those who transform Venice into a mini-monte Carlo. This marriage helps the image of the city.”
Italy’s Ministry of Health has released a red heat alarm for Venice over the weekend, part of a heat wave affecting large parts of southern Europe.
