Dallas Cowboys -Owner Jerry Jones was sitting in front of media members on Thursday and approaching the amazing Micah Parsons trade to Green Bay Packers.
The most important question about everyone’s mind: Why trade trade?
“This gives us a chance to be a better team than we have had in the last several years,” said Jones with his son, CEO and director of player staff Stephen Jones, sitting on his right.

“We thought it was in our organization’s best interest, not only the future, but right now this season.”
It is difficult for cowboys fans to understand that the agreement was made in favor of the team’s victory in total in 2025 and the future, but Jones offered some details on the opposite, starting with the acquisition of the Pro Bowl Defensive Tackle Kenny Clark as part of the deal.
“We’ve got a Pro Bowl player in an area we had major concerns in – inside our defense,” Jones said.

Jones added that the possibility of a trade for Parsons took place throughout the spring, though he said he offered him an appointment in April. He has previously stated that he offered Parsons the highest contract of a non-quarter in the NFL story, and he doubled on Thursday night, he offered him more guaranteed money than they reported $ 136 million he received in his four-year-old, $ 188 million Packers extension he received after he was traded.
“I want to say this: It was important that we got if we could get it, the kind of interest we got to trade for Micah,” Jones said. “He was an asset we got four good years out of. But when you talk about making the contract he got, and for the future, it’s quite a commitment. None of it counts about what he did for the first four years. It goes against what he can do for you in the future.”
Cowboys also received Packers’ 2026 and 2027 first round elections, as Jones said he would not exclude trade for another established player.

“Not only do we immediately get a player but these draft choices could get us, I speak Top Pro Bowl-Type Players-Kunne [get us]. I don’t necessarily want to say you get these players, you have to prepare them or acquire them, “Jones explained.” But they could get us as few as three or as many as five excellent players. Now they not only contribute to a game that needs a lot of players on the field, but they also give you better odds that a high percentage of them will be available. “
Jones said it was a consensus decision, both in the front office and by the coaching staff, to trade with Packers. He added that it was still up in the air on Thursday morning when Clark went to Packer’s practice, as he usually did. Things culminated quickly and things were put in stones when the news came out.
Jones was also asked about an NFL network report that said Parsons returned to cowboys out of “empathy” when the trade interest was leaked earlier this week. Parsons claims he was told by the team to “play the 5th year or leave.”
“It wasn’t in any way out of the order or something similar,” Jones replied when asked about this report. “I think I’ve read where they said I replied, ‘We are playing under the contract as it exists right now. Get ready to play Philadelphia.’ Correctly, it was correct.
With the completed trade, the cowboys look against their future, while also of the belief that they can win right now, starting with week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“I want to make sure our fans understand that I think a lot of Micah and I wish him so much success,” Jones said. “I don’t want him to be successful when he plays cowboys a lot as I want him to have the overall success. Micah Parsons did an excellent job for us for four years.
“There is no doubt that I could have signed him in April. We all know that to have appointments, all parties have to agree. This was by design. I made Micah an offer. It was not acceptable and I honored the fact that it was not done in the way he would do it through an agent. So he was made an offer.
