“Harry Potter” writer JK Rowling slammed a transgender handball player who feared they would not be able to compete for a place on Australia’s woman’s Olympic team as biological men have been banned from competing in women’s sports.
Hannah Mouncey, a former Australian rules footballer, said of the “dismissed” podcast hoped to compete for the women’s team in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 and the Olympics in 2032. But Mouncey said it didn’t seem likely.

Rowling, who has been to keep women’s sports fair, responded to social media.
“Man fears he will not be allowed to cheat on the Olympics by playing against women,” wrote Rowling at X. “Man says anti-cheat mood will be” weapons against men like him cheat. Read more here about why the cheating man is sad and why the women he might hurt do not matter. “
Mouncey rejected the notion that transnry athletes had an advantage over women.
“There’s this idea that Trans athletes have an unreasonable advantage, but the results don’t show it,” Mouncey said. “I have always believed in justice and limitations where necessary, but blankets are not the answer.”
The International Handball Federation’s transgender policy came into force in 2022.

The policy stated that transking athletes to compete against female athletes “of competition.”
In addition, the policy stated that the athlete needs “a test result from at least 12 months, but not earlier than 14 months before the athlete’s first competition, indicating that the transient female athlete’s total testosterone level in serum was below 5 nmol/l” and “A statement from a medical professional, indicating that the urge of female athlete has been less than 5 nmol for the athlete’s first competition. ”
International Head of Olympic Committee Kirsty Coventry said in January that there was “overwhelming support” by IOC members to protect women’s category.

She added that there is “unanimous” support to come to an agreement on how to change the policy, and suggested that the IOC may be able to draw inspiration from the world’s athletics policy that restricts biological men from competing in women’s sports if these men have gone through male puberty.
