The Westies is an upcoming drama of MGM+, and JK Simmons tapped to lead it.
According to DeadlineThe story is based on a true story and it was ordered in March 2025 with Showrunners Chris Brancato and Michael Panes.
Oscar winner plays Eamon Sweeney. His character is explained as “the charismatic but ruthless leader of Westies.”
One of the showrunns, Chris, paid tribute to the casting of Spider-Man star. “JK Simmons doesn’t just play authority – he exudes it. We are lucky to have an actor who brings gravitas and danger that this world demands.”
The log line in the series reads, “The series is set in the early 1980s when the construction of the Jacob Javitz Convention Center at Westies’ home ground in Hell’s Kitchen promises a financial wind.”
“Despite the fact that he was over the number fifty fish of the five families of the Italian mafia, Westies’ legendary brutality and cunning have given them the leverage needed to share the prey through a fragile that,” continued synopsis.
“But internal conflict between the Brash younger generation and the old school leadership threatens to put a match to this powder cake, which will sweep Westies into the FBI’s ever-deeper examination of the Italian mafia,” added it.
