Islamabad:
Jammu & Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) Chairman Alt by Ahmed Bhat has strongly condemned the installation of the Ashoka emblem inside the honored Hazratbal -shrine in Srinagar.
Senior Hurriyat leader said that Hazratbal is not only a historical place, but a sacred space for the entire Muslim community Jammu and Kashmir as it houses the Holy Prophet’s Holy Relic (peace be upon him).
“The attempt to place a sculpted emblem in such a devoted place is deeply offensive to Islamic principles, especially the concept of Tawheed, which rejects any kind of idol or image within worship,” Bhat said in a statement.
He praised Kashmiri -Processers who, by love and respect for their faith, removed the emblem and called their action a clear expression of people’s devotion to Islam and their rejection of letting politics incorporate their religious lives.
Bhat criticized the role of WAQF boarding authorities in this case and said such decisions are driven by political agendas rather than genuine religious considerations.
He warned that any effort to change the spiritual nature of Kashmir’s mosques and shrines will be resisted by the people with unity and determination.
“Holy spaces are intended for prayer and spiritual reflection, not for political screens. The people of Kashmir will never allow their holy places to be desecrated or transformed into platforms for symbolism. Our heritage and our faith are non-negotiations,” he said.
A controversy broke out after a renovation plaque was installed at the historic mosque carrying Ashoka -emblem – which is also India’s national emblem. The plaque was allegedly vandalized by unidentified people and the emblem was removed with stones, followed by arrests.
