Cena even talked about the idea of turning heel in 2012 at Chris van Vliet’s podcast last year. But the dramatic turn from being immensely loved by the fans to turning his back on everything his character stood for over several years never happened – until Saturday.
The comparisons then stumbled in. Which heel -trip was bigger – Hulk Hogan was the third man in the new world order and turned on the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1996 at Bash on the beach, or was it Cena?
Hogan weighed in during an interview with Justin Barrasso for his substack “Undoubtedly.”
“It’s one of the best heel turns I’ve seen for a long, long time,” Hogan said. “All the big players were involved. I can’t say enough about the rock – he was incredible. They did it right, I tell you.”
Hogan added it. Cena now does not do the things he had done – essentially to shake hands and kiss babies. He called it “bigger than a wrestling angle.”
When Hogan decided to become the “bad guy” in pro wrestling, his gimmick is said by “Say your beans and eating your vitamins” to be stale. No pro wrestling -fan at the time thought Hogan could adapt to Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, who had just connected to WCW in the weeks before from WWE – then known as the World Wrestling Federation.

Turn started the start of the dominance of the new world order fraction. WCW defeated WWE in Ratings for 83 weeks before the other company eventually corrected the ship and bought WCW.
Cena started her career and would make a good impression in the company’s “reckless aggression” era and then transformed into a rapper who would disk and drop freestyle rap tracks on his opponents.
He became one of the most popular wrestlers ever and even set a record for most Make-a-Wish Foundation Wishes awarded. He won the WWE Championship 13 times and the World Heavyweight Championship three times. Another title win will set a record.
That’s what his farewell tour should be about when he announced his retirement last summer. He began on the journey at Royal Rumble, only to be the final competitor who was removed.
The signs seemed to be there after that. He declared himself a competitor in men’s elimination chamber without earning the place. Then he adapted himself with the rock that originally asked Rhodes to become “his master.”

Cena’s last WWE race will now be on the other side of the hallway and will keep a warm story burning throughout the rest of the year.
