“John is not doing well with the loss and the accident. He is really upset and withdrawn,” a source told page six in a story published Tuesday.

Elway avoids charges in Sperbeck’s death.

Riverside County, California, Sheriff Chad Bianco told 9news in Denver that the fatal golf cart was nothing but a “tragic accident” and that the investigation of the death has been completed.

“It’s over. We’ve talked to everyone involved and we didn’t find anything new. There was nothing criminal, that’s what we’ve said all the time that this was a tragic accident,” Bianco told the station.

A lawyer for Elway told Page Six that this was a “terrible situation for everyone.”

“We always knew John hadn’t done anything wrong, but that didn’t reduce the sadness,” the lawyer added.

After Sperbeck’s death, Elway released a statement.

“I am definitely destroyed and the heart bridge of the departure to my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck,” Elway said in a statement via ESPN. “There are no words to really express the deep sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me.

“My heart and deepest sympathy goes out to Jeff’s wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed for loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love, he brought into my life and life for so many others.”
