The legendary actress and iconic star who starred in the BBC drama Doctor Martin died just days after she celebrated her 38th birthday.
Actress and vocalist June Marlow, born Jean Dike, dies on February 22 at her home overlooking Sutton Harbor in Plymouth with loved ones by her side.
Marlow’s daughter Kate Van Dike expressed gratitude to the hospice staff who made it possible for Jean to stay at home in her final days.
She noted: “They treated Mum with such tenderness and recognized her as the most important person. We could never have cared for her at home without their help.”
Despite aging faster, Marlow chose not to dwell on his illness.
Kate added: “Mum didn’t want to focus on that. She kept looking ahead and was always pragmatic and driven.”
Remembering the warmth that characterized Marlow’s personality, Kate said: “Even at the end she was still able to flash her beautiful smile.”
Who was June Marlow?
Marlow became a household name after appearing on the BBC in a series of acclaimed productions spanning several decades.
Marlow was born on 15 January 1931 and was seen being brought up in Plymouth’s Barbican neighbourhood.
Marlow’s hidden talent for acting was recognized in early life.
School teachers noticed that she was a gifted actress when she began performing in productions at school parties, singing and entertaining classmates with impressions of iconic artists, including Mae West.
Marlow kept her acting alive throughout her life, her last television appearance coming at the age of 85.
She played Ethela patient who had fallen and injured his hand on a rusty nail.
Marlow appeared in several BBC programmes, including Jamaica inn, The Pickwick Papersand the children’s drama MI high.
However, Doctor Martin made her a household name, playing alongside Martin Clunes.
