Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was sworn in as the acting Supreme Court in Pakistan on Monday. The ED-Taking Ceremony was held by the Supreme Court in Pakistan, where Justice Munib Akhtar administered oath.

Senior lawyers and staff at the Supreme Court were present at the ED ceremony.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah assumes the role during the absence of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, who is on an official visit to China to attend the 20th conference on Chief Justices for Supreme Courts of SCO Member States. The conference is scheduled to take place in Hangzhou from April 22 to April 26.

During the visit, an appointment morandum (MOU) is expected to be signed between the Supreme Court in Pakistan and Supreme People’s Court of China.

The agreement aims to strengthen legal cooperation with a focus on education, information exchange and cooperation in various legal fields, including international commercial law, arbitration, cyber crime, economic crimes, climate change, legal technology and dispute resolution.

Mou is also seeking to improve legal assistance in civilian affairs and improve enforcement of court decisions. Both countries have repeated their obligation to legal independence and the rule of law.
