In a rare and high-risk case, a couple from Baldia Town, Karachi, Welcome Kvintuplets, Three Girls and Two Boys, have delivered prematurely via emergency in Caesarean section at a local hospital.
The father, Adnan Sheikh, said it was the couple’s first pregnancy, one year into their marriage.
Doctors stated that the babies were born in just 29 weeks of pregnancy – significantly earlier than standard 37 to 40 weeks – which classified them as extremely premature.
All five infants have very low birth weights and required immediate oxygen support due to underdeveloped lungs, a frequent concern in early deliveries. They are currently under the clock around the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where their condition was closely monitored.
The hospital’s officials confirmed that although all five infants show signs of gradual improvement, the first few weeks remain critical. Premature babies born before 32 weeks have a high risk of life -threatening complications, including respiratory emergency syndrome, brain haemorrhage, infections and long -term development delays.
