Karachi authorities have announced a large-scale anti-encroachment operation across all Cantonment Board jurisdictions aimed at tackling illegal structures in the city’s central areas.
Korangi Cantonment Board begins operations in the Bhittai colony and the surrounding areas, confirmed a board spokesman, reported local news sources on Tuesday, reported local news sources.
Similar drives take place in locales in Clifton, Defense, Darakhshan and Gizri.
Shahrah-E-Faisal Cantonment Board also plans to launch an operation in its area, while Malir Cantonment Board will clear intervention around Safoora Chowrangi and nearby zones.
“All areas with Cantonment Board, including DHA, will see operations against illegal interventions,” the spokesman said.
Previously, an anti-enhancroachment drive met in Karachi’s federal B-area with resistance from the residents, leaving a station house officer wounded.
Police reported that over 200 illegally constructed homes on Parkland were ripped during court decisions.
In addition, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Thursday sealed a commercial market on Adiala Road to default on RS35 million in the quota last month.
The authority also recovered two channels of valuable land on Asghar Mall Road, which had been occupied by Land Grabbers and handed it to the Directorate of State.
During an operation against intervention and illegal constructions, a significant number of permanent interventions along both sides of the road were torn down, with the cleared blocked roads of traffic and pedestrians.
RDA sealed a 12-channel Pearl market on Adiala Road so as not to pay the outstanding quota of RS35m. At Asghar Mall Road, interventions and illegal constructions, including border walls, fences and protective sheds along the road near the Hanan mosque, Desehra Ground and Eidgah Sharif, were also torn.
Similarly, the border wall in the city’s marriage hall was also demolished to restore parking setbacks. The operation removed illegally constructed structures and cleared the road to proper use.
