Residents of Karachi’s Ramswami area staged a violent protest late Sunday night until Monday morning and stormed the K-electric Office near the garden headquarters over a long-term power outage.

Protesters pelted stones at K-ELECTRIC’S OFFICE and crushed the windows of two mini-trucks parked outside, Express News reported.

Some protesters also hit vehicles with sticks. High rans against K-Electric and the Sindh government repeated through the area as frustrations mounted.

Residents said the power supply to their location had been suspended since 2 p.m. 7 Sunday, and despite repeated complaints, no action was taken.

With temperatures sky -high, many complained about worsening conditions at home, especially affecting children, the elderly and the sick.

The stop also triggered a serious water shortage and worsened the evil of the residents.

Protesters accused K-electric staff for dodging calls to their auxiliary line and said there was no senior official in the office to tackle their complaints.

“We are being lied to continuously,” said a resident.

“They claim that the power interruption is due to cable errors but no repairs have been made. If anyone gets seriously ill or worse, K-ELECTRIC will be held responsible and we will file a formal case.”

Police later arrived at the stage and assured the amount that efforts were underway to restore power.

Residents spread after insurance, but warned that they would return to protest Monday morning if the electricity was not restored.

K-electric has not yet issued an official statement of the incident.
