Chief meteorologist Amir Haider Laghari clarified Wednesday that there
“Karachi has historically experienced earthquakes of 5.5 and 5.8 magnitude,” Laghari said in a statement.
He detailed that mild earthquakes originate due to the activation of the Landhi error line, which undergoes an adjustment process.
He said millions of earthquakes of this kind occur across the globe daily.
Chiefen Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) also said that an ordinary person, even in developed countries like Japan, cannot predict seismic activity.
The port city experienced three more earthquakes with intensities from 2 to 3.1 magnitude last night, making the fourth consecutive day of shaking.
According to PMD’s Seismic Monitoring Center, the latest activity has taken the total number of tremors that feel in Karachi to 26 since June 1, Seismological Center said.
Since Sunday, several mild tremors have been labeled in Karachi’s Landhi, Quaidabad, Malir and the surrounding neighborhoods, raising concerns among the residents. No significant damage or injuries have been reported.
