Yesterday, the Meteorological Department’s early warning center had predicted strong winds in Karachi.

According to the department, there had been the possibility of occasional strong winds on Friday and Saturday, which were expected to increase the intensity of cold weather.

Other areas of the province including Larkana, Tharparkar and Umerkot had experienced extreme cold with possibility of fog in central and northern districts of Sindh, especially during night and morning.

Meteorological department had reported that a new westerly weather system entered Pakistan from Balochistan on 18 January.

Although no rain was expected in Karachi under this new system, cold rear winds had affected the city as the system moved towards the northern regions.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz had mentioned that Karachi was expected to experience cold and dry winds (cold waves) during the last week of the month due to the new western system.

This had led to an increase in the cold intensity due to the dry and slightly stronger winds than usual.
