Karachi:
Protests broke out in different neighborhoods of the metropolis after several localities remained without electricity for more than 50 hours after heavy rain on August 19.
Residents of University Road, Tipu Sultan Road, Moinabad, Bustan Society, Amirabad and adjacent areas said that Power went out around 10am. The suspension of water supply added their misery.
Anger citizens staged sit-ins out of k-electric offices and sang slogans against the tool to ignore repeated complaints. In Malir, protesters blocked the Mehran depot route and stopped Peoples Bus Service while the market’s roads in Liaquat were closed, causing serious traffic jams in the model colony, Jinnah Avenue and nearby streets.
Protesters warned that if the supply was not restored immediately, they would extend protests to other parts of the city.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that rain -related events triggered by climate change have caused human losses since June across the country. He said 427 people died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 165 in Punjab, 40 in Sindh, 22 in Balochistan, 56 in Azad Kashmir and eight in Islamabad. In Tharparkar, 198 mm of rainfall resulted in the death of three people and 18 livestock.
Minister of Energy
Sindh Minister of Energy and Planning and Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah visited a surprise visit to K-electric’s headquarters after growing public complaints about long-term power cuts. He instructed K-electric officials to take immediate and practical measures to resolve complaints.
